Diablo 4 Guide - The New Rogue Meta: Flurry + Rapid Fire
Hey everyone, check out my latest Diablo 4 Rogue Build! It's a top-tier, incredibly fast, and enjoyable build that combines two Core Skills for an all-around amazing experience.
I would confidently say that this build can compete with popular choices like deftrap and dressing blades. It's exceptionally swift, allowing you to effortlessly annihilate everything in your path.
I've designed this build to be relatively tanky, ensuring a smooth journey throughout the game. Playing it has been an absolute delight. Here's how it works:
First, we have Flurry as our primary attack. It boasts a 360-degree circular area of effect (AOE). When combined with its easily obtainable legendary aspect, it becomes even more potent. Additionally, we have Rapid Fire, which serves as a powerful single-target nuke. Although the second ability is used less frequently, it deals more than twice the damage of Flurry on a single target.
Even if you prioritize buffing Flurry over Rapid Fire, investing in both skills evenly can make Rapid Fire three times as effective. This means you'll have exceptional clearing capabilities and can defeat bosses with impressive speed.
To further enhance our clearing potential, I've incorporated Shadow Amburement into the build. While Flurry already has decent AOE clear, it can sometimes feel lacking in large packs or spacious rooms with numerous monsters. Shadow Amburement allows you to create explosive chain reactions that decimate the entire screen.
In terms of resource management, this build revolves around comma points. By maintaining a three-to-one rotation between Puncture and either Flurry or Rapid Fire, you maximize the effectiveness of each shot. This strategy ensures that resource issues are virtually nonexistent. I didn't rely on energy cost reduction or resource aspects and never encountered any problems, even in resource burn maps.
The build's speed is exceptional thanks to two mobility skills: the CC break from Shadow Step's Unstoppable and the absence of cooldown waits. Whenever I engage in combat, I simply press my buttons. The only factor that occasionally affects clearing speed is the Shadow imbuement. The main challenge lies in deciding when to use Rapid Fire versus Flurry. Flurry is the primary choice about 95% of the time, but using Rapid Fire strategically in the remaining 5% significantly accelerates your progress.
The inclusion of Rapid Fire is meant for dealing with high-value targets. When faced with constructs or elites isolated in corners, or when battling bosses, using Rapid Fire at the right moment drastically speeds up your progression. Typically, for regular bosses, I used one or two Rapid Fires, occasionally three, which already falls on the longer side. Usually, I can blast through bosses in a mere 3 seconds.
While I've already respec'd my in-game character after reaching level 100, I've provided a default planner for this build. The starter setup is designed to be achievable at level 50, utilizing only codex powers. It's effortless to set up, as there are no specific requirements, and the majority of what you need is already available in the Codex.
For the endgame variant, I've included the paragon build, along with items like Condemnation, which is highly useful for combo point builds. The best-in-slot version incorporates Penitent Griefs, which may be a bit more challenging to find, but with some perseverance, you'll eventually come across them a few times on your Rogue. These boots provide additional damage through the chill effect, granting a 10% damage boost. Additionally, I've made some slight adjustments with Fringe of Finesse.
As for the skill tree, we utilize Puncture as our basic attack. It offers excellent utility, providing vulnerability, slow, and resources. It also enables the Tricks of the Trade combo. In the Paragon tree, we have Tricks of the Trade as a legendary node, granting a 25% damage increase when using a cutthroat skill (Flurry) after a marksman skill (Puncture). This translates to a significant damage multiplier for playing the game naturally, which is fantastic. Unfortunately, this bonus doesn't apply to Rapid Fire. However, there is a workaround with Shadow Step.
For example, when facing a boss, I would start by building my combo points with Puncture, then use Shadow Step, which counts as a cutthroat skill. After that, I would unleash Rapid Fire to take advantage of the 25% bonus damage.
In the early levels, I didn't prioritize investing heavily in Rapid Fire, but as soon as I had the basics down, I put points into both Flurry and Rapid Fire. Maxed Flurry is excellent because it provides extra healing, especially when combined with Siphoning Strikes for increased recovery.
In the skill tree, we have two upgrades for Flurry that are useful at different stages. Improved Flurry spreads vulnerability to all targets hit, making it great for clearing large packs early on. However, later on, Advanced Flurry becomes more beneficial as it adds a stun effect when you evade through enemies and use Flurry afterward. This stun can be useful for disabling multiple elites or tightly packed enemies.
Rapid Fire is primarily a single-target attack but gains additional critical chance from the enhancement and increased critical damage from evading. When engaging a boss, I would evade, build combo points, use Shadow Step, and sometimes even rotate around the boss to maximize damage output.
Shadow Step serves as a mobility skill, allowing me to engage packs by either evading into them or using Shadow Step to stun a single elite before eliminating it. The Dash skill is just a single point investment for utility, allowing me to quickly move away from a pack after dealing with it.
Shadow Imbuement is maxed out and provides additional critical chance and non-physical damage. While it can be activated for extra single-target burst damage, it is primarily used for explosive chain reactions against groups of enemies.
In terms of passives, I prioritize defensive options like Sturdy for healing, but Status Step is optional. Weapon Mastery is a must-have for increased damage. The combo of Concussive Triggers and Rabbit Gambits synergizes well, granting extra critical chance when knocking down enemies and reducing evade cooldown when dazing them. Exploit Weakness and Tricks of the Trade are the main Paragon boards, providing additional damage, crit chance, and other beneficial effects.
The next setup includes the "No Witness" aspect combined with the Exploit glyph. The Exploit glyph is initially light in this setup, but it's not a problem for Flurry as you can use the Vulnerable Spread until you acquire the Exploit glyph and then switch to it. The setup also includes a few random notes and the Ruin glyph, which provides additional critical damage.
Moving on to the Cunning Stratagem board, we prioritize Strength for stacking, which grants extra damage reduction against nearby targets. While the board's bonuses may not be easily accessible unless you have specific stats on your crossbow, it doesn't significantly impact the overall effectiveness of the build.
There are two combat glyphs included: one for increased critical damage, which is powerful for any Rogue build, and the Closer glyph, which provides additional damage reduction while using a melee weapon and extra damage for cutthroat skills. Although the Rapid Fire skill isn't affected by the Closer glyph, its overall power is so high that the absence of this bonus is negligible. This setup is mainly for the early stages.
Alternatively, you can opt for the "Pentagon Greaves" setup, where the Closer glyph is replaced with the Control glyph. With the permanent chill effect from the Pentagon Greaves, the Control glyph grants more damage output, which applies to Rapid Fire, Flurry, and even Shadow Imbuement, resulting in larger explosions. The secondary bonus of the Control glyph, providing an extra 10% damage or 20% against stunned enemies, synergizes well with Flurry. This change is the primary adjustment made to these setups.
Regarding items Diablo 4 cheap , the build starts with a level 50 setup. It includes the Cheats aspect for damage reduction from crowd-controlled enemies, Disobedience for additional armor stacks, and the Shadow Slicer aspect. Although the Shadow Slicer aspect doesn't deal direct damage, its Shadow Clone provides a second dash, which can daze enemies. This synergizes with the Enhanced and Disciplined Dash nodes in the skill tree. The second dash from Shadow Slicer applies a daze effect, helping to maintain momentum stacks. Later on, the Rapid Gambits nodes can replace the Enhanced and Disciplined Dash nodes, allowing for more evades and quicker recharge times.
Other core powers in the build include Might, which remains constant, and Ghost Walker, which can later be replaced by either Ravager for an extra Shadow Step charge or the Pentagon Greaves. Edge Masters is a consistent aspect, along with Rapid for basic attack speed, Corruption for slightly larger Shadow Movement explosions, and Encircling Blades, which is an essential aspect acquired early on during the class quest at level 15.
The Expectant aspect is crucial for any cold point build due to its extra damage. In the early stages, Wind Striker is a recommended aspect for its movement speed bonus, but other aspects can be used as well. In the later game, you can discover aspects like Accelerating, which provides even more attack speed. Attack speed is emphasized in this build, and stacking it can lead to rapid combos being executed in half a second.
Lastly, the legendary aspects can be adjusted according to preference. For example, the Disobedience aspect on the amulet can be moved to the helm, allowing for the inclusion of an additional offensive power by dropping Cheats.
For example, let's consider your Emerald accessory, where you can equip the retribution enchantment. Retribution enhances your damage against stunned targets, granting up to 40% or even 60% additional damage on the Emerald. If you enjoy stunning your enemies and using the evade and flurry combo, this enchantment provides significant damage bonuses for your staff's prioritized abilities. It's a fairly standard choice and offers nothing extraordinary.
In terms of desired stats, focus on acquiring qualities like critical chance, critical damage, increased damage to vulnerable targets, and increased damage output overall. These stats are highly valuable for almost any build except for full damage-over-time (DoT) setups. Additionally, invest in skill ranks for both flurry and rapid fire abilities.
If you have to choose, prioritize enhancing your flurry ability. However, once you find a glove that includes both flurry and rapid fire, stick with it and aim to obtain the grid enchantment. Later on, you can reduce attack speed. This combination is ideal and considered a dream combo for your build.
Emphasize obtaining good defensive stats, particularly for your chest and pants. Seek damage reduction, damage reduction from clothes, damage reduction from distant life, and even percent armor. These defensive enhancements contribute significantly to your survival. Neglecting them is not advisable.
Moving on to the amulet, there are several useful stats that can roll here. Personally, I recommend focusing on movement speed and cooldown reduction to expedite progression and farming. The best passive to aim for is weapon mastery, although other options such as exploit, metals, and finesse are viable. Weapon mastery holds a slight edge in my opinion. Additionally, consider stats like damage reduction or other damage modifiers.
For the helm, prioritize cooldown reduction as the number one attribute. After that, look for attributes like live armor, shadow bu, and order them accordingly. The specific ranks of the shadow of human enchantment are not crucial. So, if you have another beneficial attribute in that slot, it's acceptable.
Regarding weapons, the desired stats are similar to those on rings. Look for critical damage, borna ball, main stats, close damage, and core damage. These attributes are what you should aim for on your weapons.
If you're not using Pentagon griefs, then consider the following stats for your boots. Start with movement speed as a minimum requirement. The bonus movement speed on elite kills is highly beneficial, and any other stats afterward are not as crucial. You may consider energy cost reduction, damage reduction while injured, or dodge chance. These are additional options for your boots. Additionally, prioritize obtaining the maximum evade charge implicit for maximum effectiveness.
Now I'd like to discuss the playstyle in more detail, specifically focusing on the Rapid Fire ability. Let me demonstrate a common example, which involves dealing with constructs during an intermission event.
As you can see, I swiftly eliminate these constructs with just one cycle of attacks. This showcases the immense power of Rapid Fire. Instead of using multiple flurry combos, I opt to destroy them quickly and move on. Allow me to provide another example involving an elite enemy.
In the top left corner, you'll notice an elite called the animals carrier, who is completely isolated without any nearby enemies. In this situation, using flurry would be unnecessary. Instead, I swiftly engage the elite and defeat it without delay, employing the use of Rapid Fire. Similarly, I utilize Rapid Fire to deal with the other enemy shown here.
If you observe the entire clip without interruption, you'll notice how rapidly I dispatch these elites. Each one is practically eliminated in a matter of seconds, thanks to my high attack speed and the ability to accumulate call points through Rapid Fire. This build's strength lies in preventing the elites from executing any actions if you make the right decisions and react appropriately. You can disable or obliterate these elites before they have a chance to act, which greatly contributes to the safety of this build.
Particularly, when facing single target elites that are isolated, such as those tucked away in a corner, it's best to prioritize their elimination. In such cases, you can simply approach them and prevent them from casting any spells or attacks. It may not always be crystal clear whether to use flurry or rapid fire, but generally, when facing numerous enemies, flurry is the preferred choice. On the other hand, when dealing with fewer enemies, especially a single target that poses a significant threat, or when confronting Goldman shamans to avoid their lightning strikes, rapid fire proves more effective.
This strategy can prove highly advantageous. For instance, if there's an explosion occurring, I can't immediately engage with flurry and must wait outside. Instead, I make use of rapid fire during this time to avoid wasting any opportunities.
