Neon whirls dan percikan api listrik mendominasi ini bersemangat karya seni terinspirasi oleh Dr. Seuss, MC Escher, buku-buku komik dan tak terhitung desain geometri dan pola. It had been almost a month since I last did some outdoor light painting and long overdue for me to make some light magic.

Canon t1i, ISO 100, Rokinon 14mm manual lens, 12 minutes, cropped to 2x1.
f/22 for the flashlight flares.
f/8 for the EL tape silhouette, circle tool, and monkeylight.
f/5.6 to gel the bush.
f/4 was supposed to be the el wire but it died. =(
f/2.8 for another minute to try to give the star trails fat heads but apparently given the separation, I must have bumped the tripod. Damn.
All in all, I satisfied the light bug.

Making Light Magic

I just found a couple of frames from October I forgot to upload. Shadows from ambient light can make for an interesting environment to light paint.

I have been steadily decluttering and rearranging the shack to maximize space.

My sons and I are spending a lot more evenings hanging out in the tacky shack. They've been painting, playing with my light toys, and playing various old school game systems with me. Good times.

This is how I roll most nights. With my pockets and my hands full I'm about to go paint the photo below in my yard. I try to avoid making a return trip to the shack once I've got the frame and I'm in the zone.

This photo took a lot of brainstorming and problem solving. Glad we were able to pay homage to Drew's home state.

Starting at f/11, I backlit Drew sporting the cowboy hat behind the flag. I then did the blue X behind the door (In hindsight, this was the step we could have done better). As I painted the X, Drew turned on his porch light for 10 seconds.

I quickly slipped outside and covered the lens until the flag settled back to original position. Drew turned off the blue and red light sticks that were lighting up the bottom of his screen door. We then started writing the letters on the bricks with 200 lumen flashlights.

Once the letters were done, I switched to f/22 and we did the blue flares along the edges.

Why such a high ISO you ask? Well... I'm trying to get a feel for what elements look like at f/22. With the manual lens I can then open it up to f/5.6 and let it cook in the sky / light up the environment.

Buckets of rain have fallen from the sky. My pond is full, my yard is a swampy mess, and as I squished around doing this shot, I remained optimistic of sunny days and clear nights to come.
