The Heir He Never Knew Chapter 01

After the car accident, Chelsea Greene had finally become the wife Melvin always wanted—no tears, no fights, no drama. Even the monthly drug trial slipped completely from her mind.
She stopped revolving her life around him—no more chattering about her day or asking where he was going. When another woman confessed her love to him, she didn't get jealous. Even the gossip that once rattled her barely registered.
Chelsea When the nineteenth reminder call came, Chelsea declined it again, calm and indifferent.
"Chels, what's going on?" her best friend asked, confused. "Before, even one text from Melvin would make you jump for joy.
"You got into the accident to save him. This should've been your perfect chance to get closer. So why are you acting like this?"
"I had a dream," Chelsea said.
Her friend blinked. "A dream? That's it?"
"Yeah."
Melvin's coldness and cruelty in that dream flickered through Chelsea's mind. She grabbed her phone and walked out of the hospital.
At Elysian Club.
The door to the VIP room was slightly ajar. Inside, Melvin stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray, his expression dark with irritation. The air was thick with tension; no one dared to speak.
A curvy, curly‑haired woman in a red dress sat beside him, gently tapping his cheek.
"Mel," she said softly, breaking the silence, "Chels just got into a car accident. She's still recovering. Of course, she doesn't want to do the drug trial now. Cut her some slack, okay?"
"But your condition..."
He took her pale, slender wrist, his anger fading into worry and care.
"I'm fine. I've long grown accustomed to it."
She smiled faintly, stroking his hair. "Even if death comes, I won't be alone. Your mom will be up there keeping me company."
"Maddison, I've told you not to say things like that."
Melvin frowned, his eyes reddening as he covered her mouth.
Maddison Rowe let out a muffled laugh and pushed his hand away.
"God, that's rude. I told you to call me Aunt—"
Before she could finish, Melvin grabbed the back of her head and kissed her hard, biting down on her lips as if punishing her.
The tension in the room finally eased. Melvin's friends weren't surprised at all. Instead, they started teasing.
"Maddison, don't worry about Chelsea. Mel only married her because she knows a bit of medicine and does what she's told—a perfect guinea pig for your treatment."
"Exactly. If Sir Cummingham hadn't opposed your marriage, she wouldn't even have had the chance to be Mel's wife. And now, after a minor accident, she's acting like she's above it."
"Hey, don't say that," Maddison said with a slight frown. "She's been through a lot, taking the meds, giving blood. I'll make sure Mel treats her better."
Someone immediately chimed in, praising her kindness. Outside the door, Chelsea stood frozen.
So the dream had been real.
Her fingers slowly curled into a fist as she leaned against the wall, her legs trembling.
She had never imagined that the faceless mistress in her dream would turn out to be Melvin's aunt.
For three years, Chelsea had gone through drug trials for her and given her blood. Every time Chelsea tried to walk away from Melvin, it had been Maddison who comforted her, eased her doubts, and convinced her to stay. And yet, she had been the one destroying their marriage.
Tears blurred Chelsea's vision. Inside, Melvin pulled Maddison into his arms, his voice soft and gentle.
"Maddie, I found the heir to that herbal medicine family I told you about. She's cured blood disorders before and agreed to help.
"Just give me a little more time. I'll get you healthy, and I'll give you a grand wedding."
Chelsea's heart twisted as if seared by a burning iron. Even though she had seen it in her dream, the pain still stole her breath.
She couldn't stay another second.
Just as she turned to leave, a man's uncertain voice called out behind her.
"Chels?"
Inside the room, the chatter died instantly.
