The Forgotten Mrs. Beckett Chapter 01

Everyone in Los Angeles knew the love story of Astrid Milner and Noah Beckett. Childhood friends who grew up side by side, they were each other's first love and had been hopelessly devoted to one another ever since.
On the day she was revealed to be a fake heiress, he swore to her father, "The only person I will ever marry is Asti!"
Later, the true heiress, Gracelyn Milner, was brought back. In a striking red dress, she said to Astrid, a cold smirk on her lips, "Watch as I take everything away from you, Astrid. That includes... Noah."
Astrid only lowered her eyes and let out a cold chuckle.
She was sure that no matter what, Noah would always be on her side.
But before she could speak, Gracelyn shoved her down the stairs in a rage.
With bloodshot eyes, Noah stayed by Astrid's hospital bed for three days. "For what Gracelyn did to you, I'll make her pay a hundredfold!"
For the next five years, Noah's hatred for Gracelyn burned on.
Tabloids speculated wildly, calling the trio's story a "love-hate triangle."
Noah felt nothing but hatred for Gracelyn and an unwavering love for Astrid.
Astrid and Noah's extravagant wedding set the city abuzz with excitement.
Noah practically bought out all the roses in Los Angeles and had them scattered from helicopters.
The whole city witnessed this fairy-tale wedding.
Gracelyn missed the wedding, reportedly ill from her own anger.
In the third year of their marriage, Astrid became pregnant.
That evening, she drove home filled with indescribable joy.
After driving past a kindergarten, she came to a stop at a red light.
Her gaze drifted upward, and she suddenly saw Noah.
Smiling gently, he held a child's hand, a woman standing beside him.
The three stood side by side in the dusk, the very picture of a perfect family.
The soft light fell on the woman's face—it was Gracelyn!
Astrid's hands froze on the steering wheel.
Just then, the custom ringtone she had set for Noah rang.
His voice came through, as gentle as always. "Asti, I've got an urgent meeting tonight, so I won't be home for dinner. I've asked Joyce to make your favorite dishes. Make sure to eat while they're warm. Don't wait for me. Get some sleep."
Astrid tightened her grip on the phone, her fingers stiff.
Just a second ago, countless excuses for him flashed through her mind.
She told herself perhaps she was mistaken, or maybe it was just a coincidence.
But now, hearing him spin such a convincing lie so effortlessly in such a doting voice, she knew she could no longer fool herself. Her hope had shattered into pieces.
Her throat felt constricted, and a dull pain spread through her chest, almost suffocating her.
Late at night, following the address sent by her assistant, Astrid found the hidden private residence.
The property deed was under Gracelyn's name.
The villa was brightly lit, illuminating the carefully maintained garden.
Her gaze slowly shifted to the coffee table in the center of the living room—a child's activity book lay on it.
On the cover, she spotted the child's name—Lyndon Beckett.
Astrid trembled all over, as if an invisible icicle had pierced her heart.
Tears fell without warning onto the back of her cold hand.
Her mind drifted back to that Sunday—the sunlight warm on her skin, his palm resting gently against her flat belly.
"I've already picked out a name for our future child. We'll call her Esther Beckett—she'll carry a piece of both of us."
That sacred promise felt meaningless now that he was sharing it with someone else.
The sound of an engine shutting off came from afar.
Astrid quickly slipped aside and hid in a narrow utility closet.
The door creaked open and closed, and footsteps drew steadily nearer.
Then came the faint sounds of fabric brushing and breaths mingling.
Gracelyn said smugly, "You've been fooling Astrid, that idiot, for almost ten years, right? The way she trusts you with her whole heart is honestly... disgusting to watch."
She chuckled. "How do you think she'll react when she finds out the truth—that we already have two kids together, that you've never been with her all these years, and that you let my useless brother take your place after secretly drugging her with sleeping pills?
"She'd probably go insane on the spot. She would even want to skin you alive, don't you think?"
"This is what she owes you, Gracie."
Noah's voice sounded—it was low and relaxed, tinged with a lingering affection so unfamiliar to Astrid.
"Talk is cheap..." Gracelyn's voice turned sultry.
"Alright, I'll make sure you're fully satisfied tonight, you horny girl."
Noah chuckled softly before lowering his voice. "I'd do anything for you, Gracie. If Astrid hadn't taken what was yours back then, you wouldn't have had to suffer out there. You'd have enjoyed a life of luxury, as the only heiress of the Milner family."
Inside the closet, Astrid dug her nails into her palm.
On the night of their engagement, Noah had kissed her fingertips, eyes filled with devotion. "Asti, I'd do anything for you."
His touching vows now felt like poisoned needles stabbing into her heart.
"Noah..." Gracelyn's voice was sickly sweet, yet every word was venomous.
"She stole twenty years of my life. All that love, all that glory—it was supposed to be mine."
"Soon, it will be yours."
Noah's voice was steady and cold. "In a few days, the Milner family's trust fund will be distributed.
"I'll make Astrid hand over those assets to me herself.
"Once we secure the money and power, I'll make her disappear without a trace."
Astrid leaned against the cold wall and slowly closed her eyes.
Her heart ached all of a sudden as she trembled in pain.
In the darkness, she blinked hard, trying to shake off the overwhelming dizziness and dull ache.
Her hands trembled so badly she could barely hold her phone. "Dad, I want a divorce. I need to make sure Noah... doesn't get anything."
