One Hundred Punishments Chapter 01
My mom Evelyn Bennett was my Head Teacher, and her favorite thing was to use me to establish her authority.
I passed an eraser for a classmate during class, and she slapped my face so hard it swelled up right in front of the whole class.
I sneaked a bite of a classmate's crushed potato chips after class, and Mom dragged me to the podium, piercing my lips with a needle until blood poured out.
Later, a student was caught engaging in puppy love by the discipline director. Mom insisted it was me, dragged me into the hallway without a word, and stripped off my clothes.
Right after, she went to the director's office with an apologetic smile: "I'm so sorry, Mr. Smith. It's my fault for not raising Chloe Bennett right. Don't worry, I'll punish her severely this time!"
The discipline director frowned: "What Chloe? This isn't the student involved in the puppy love."
Mom froze for a moment, then said dismissively: "Oh, it's fine, just treat it as making a public example. Chloe makes mistakes all the time anyway, one more punishment won't hurt."
But what she didn't know was that every time she hit me, I secretly deducted a point from her in my heart.
And just now, I finally reached 100 points.
Without hesitation, I leaped from the sixth-floor hallway window.
Mom, is using death to establish authority enough for you?
......
I walked into the classroom holding my midterm exam paper, my right cheek swollen like a bun, traces of blood lingering at the corner of my mouth.
The classmates around me whispered: "Chloe got beaten again, just because she didn't get a perfect score in math. So pathetic..."
Mia Harrison rolled her eyes: "What's pathetic? Her mom is the Head Teacher. She hogs the best resources and still can't get a perfect score. Who else should be beaten but her?"
I paused, swallowing the sourness in my nose, and walked into the classroom.
Just now in the office, Mom had slapped my face swollen in front of all the teachers and students.
"148 points? Should you have lost these two points? Speak!"
Mom's furious roar still seemed to echo in my ears. My right ear was ringing endlessly from the blow, rendering me almost deaf.
But Mom still didn't stop the punishment: "If you make this kind of stupid mistake again next time, I'll slap your left cheek swollen too!"
With that, she looked at the students behind her: "Those of you who also lost points due to carelessness, did you see that?"
I didn't know how the students behind me reacted. I just kept my head down, my fingers digging into my palms so hard they almost bled.
After the other students left, Mia smiled and stepped forward to act coquettishly toward Mom: "Ms. Bennett, I didn't mean to be so careless. It won't happen next time~"
Mom smiled at her dotingly: "You're always like this! Not allowed next time, clear?"
Mia stuck her tongue out playfully.
I pursed my lips, my fingers digging in even deeper.
"Alright, you guys can go!"
Mom waved her hand, and only then did I dare to slowly turn around, skillfully pulling up my hoodie, secretly prodding my numb, beaten face.
A second before leaving the office, I heard a teacher from another class say to my mom with admiration: "Mia is truly Evelyn's favorite class representative, you can't even bear to lay a finger on her."
"Evelyn, you really know how to discipline your child. Your daughter just lets you hit her so obediently, not daring to make a sound!"
Mom looked smug: "Mia isn't stupid, she just doesn't put her smarts in the right place! As for my daughter, she's been this sensible since she was little, never talking back."
But, Mom didn't know.
Those who don't fight back when beaten or cursed at are either dogs or dead.
Because my mother used me to make a public example, no one in the class dared to be my friend.
Enduring the pain in my right hand, I returned to my seat and pulled a miniature notebook from my sleeve.
"Slapped until my face swelled for scoring 148 in math, -1."
I wrote silently.
Before I knew it, it had been 99 times.
That is to say, my mother had used me to make a public example exactly 99 times.
Just one more time, and I would be free.
A warrior makes a life-or-death decision in a single thought.
But I am not; I am just an ordinary person, cowardly to the point of being useless.
I carefully tucked the little notebook back into my sleeve and took out my math test paper.
Even though it was recess, I was not allowed to play with the others.
Listening to the sounds of my classmates laughing and playing around me, the wound on my right cheek seemed to hurt even more.
Mia walked up to me, mocking with disdain: "Chloe, Ms. Bennett treats me more like a daughter. You must be an orphan Ms. Bennett picked up, at best a punching bag to vent her anger."
I clenched my fists tightly, staring at her and speaking coldly: "Those born with a mother but raised without one just love to steal other people's mothers."
Mia's mother ran off with someone else when she was four. This was no secret in the class.
As soon as these words came out, Mia's eyes widened, instantly enraged: "Chloe, you just wait!"
"I'll be waiting." I said coldly.
All she could do was go whisper in my mother's ear and get me another severe beating.
Perfect, she would be doing me one last favor.
