Pregnant With His Enemy’s Child Chapter 01
Terrance Swinford and I had been married for five years, yet we'd never had sex.
I thought I’d been roped into a loveless marriage with a gay guy until I overheard him bitching to his friends.
"Annalise's all over me every night. It’s totally sickening."
One of his friends responded, "She has such a killer body, Terry. I'm amazed you can keep your hands off her."
Terrance took a drag of his cigarette, his brow arching slightly. "I'd never sleep with her. Vanna would find me repulsive."
"But Terry, aren't you worried Anna will find someone else to satisfy her?"
Terrance let out a smug laugh. "Find someone else? No way. You all know she's hopelessly in love with me."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
A malicious grin tugged at Terrance's lips. "Why don't you guys give it a shot?
"Whoever knocks her up gets 150 grand from me."
I stood outside the door in silence for a moment.
Then, I pushed it open and pulled the positive pregnancy test from my bag.
"Don't bother. I'm already pregnant."

Everyone in the private room froze.
Terrance fixed me with an intense stare. The cigarette smoldered down to nothing; only then did he snap out of it, springing up from his seat.
"Annalise, do you have a death wish? How dare you fucking cheat on me?"
I let out a bitter laugh. "What’s your problem? I just did you a favor and got you exactly what you wanted."
Rage burned in his eyes, and his face darkened further. "Who's the father?"
I looked around at the others. They all dropped their eyes, avoiding my gaze.
I shrugged indifferently. "None of your business. He’s got more than enough staying power, and I’m living for it."
Terrance ground his teeth and smashed the wine glass in front of him.
I stepped back, cradling my belly with exaggerated care. "Easy there. This little tyke’s gonna be calling you Dad one day, in case you forgot."
His eyes were blazing with rage when he grabbed me by the throat, the veins in his forearms popping.
I couldn’t breathe, a dull, throbbing pain settling in my chest.
The others rushed to pull him back. "Terry, don't take it seriously. Anna’s just hurt over what she heard. She’s just giving you a hard time."
"We all know how devoted and kind she is. She'd never do something like this."
"She just wants a little more of your attention. That test’s gotta be fake."
"Anna's face is turning blue, Terry. Let her go!"
Terrance's brows twitched slightly, and he loosened his grip, letting me go.
Then he let out a scoff. "I knew you didn’t have the balls. Annalise, you really thought this little stunt would get my attention? Dream on. "Don’t pull any more shit like this. If you lie to me ever again, we’re getting a divorce."
I slouched against the wall, doubled over gasping for air. Tears finally spilled over.
Mom always said my obsession with Terrance started when I was a kid. I was in diapers, toddling after him and begging for hugs.
When I was thirteen, I got my first period. I wandered around totally clueless that I’d bled right through my pants.
A group of older boys surrounded me, whistling and eyeing me with mischief. "What’s with the puffed-up chest? What you hiding in there, huh?"
"Your pants are all red. Let us take ’em off for you, yeah?"
I froze up, staring at my shoes, too scared to move a muscle.
"Get the fuck away from her!" A roar suddenly sounded from behind me.
Terrance bolted over, ripped off his jacket, and tied it around my waist.
The guys just laughed even harder, totally unfazed. "What you gonna do about it if we don’t, buddy?"
Terrance shoved me behind him, stepped up, and took them on.
The sun was scorching that day, and he ended up black and blue. If the class rep hadn’t shown up when they did, things would’ve gotten a whole lot worse.
In the nurse’s office, I sobbed so hard I could barely breathe. But Terrance stared out the window, looking annoyed. "Quit crying. It’s driving me nuts!"
I didn’t dare make a peep, choking back my sobs. Suddenly, he brushed the tears from the corners of my eyes.
I stared at him, dumbfounded. He pulled his hand back awkwardly, grabbed an orange off the table, and tossed it to me. "Peel this for me."
Right then and there, I knew: when I grew up, I was gonna marry Terrance.
For ten years, I chased him around, throwing my pride and dignity out the window.
After college, I proposed to him a dozen times over before he finally caved.
I thought my persistence had finally worn him down.
I never thought he was just keeping me around like a damn toy.
