Sold For A Lie: The Heiress They Threw Away Chapter 01

From the moment I was born, I was despised by my parents.
Dad called me a waste of space. Mom said I had the blood of a scumbag running through my veins.
Whenever Dad lost money gambling, he would beat me black and blue.
I would scream desperately for Mom to save me, but she would just give me a cold look.
"Don't call me Mom. You have his blood in you. You're just as rotten to the core as he is."
It wasn't until I was six that a group of police officers stormed our home and pinned Dad to the ground while he was still playing cards.
Only then did I realize the truth.
Mom was actually the daughter of a wealthy family from the big city. She had been trafficked here.
And I was the daughter born after the trafficker forced himself on her.

The man in the suit leading the group kicked the door open. His gaze swept across the room before finally landing on Mom, who was trembling in the corner.
His eyes instantly turned red. "Grace, I'm sorry. I came too late."
Mom looked up blankly. When she saw the man's face, she couldn't hold it back anymore. She threw herself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
The police took away my trafficker "Dad" and everyone in the village who had been involved.
The man took off his expensive jacket and draped it over Mom's frail shoulders.
He reached out to touch Mom's face. But upon seeing the bruises, his hand froze in mid-air and clenched into a tight fist. "Grace, I'm taking you home."
Mom nodded. As she stood up, she swayed unsteadily.
She followed Charles Sterling toward a luxurious black car waiting outside. From start to finish, she didn't spare me a single glance.
I chased after them, panting, and cried out, "Mom, Mom! Don't leave Nancy behind!"
Only then did Mom stop walking.
Charles turned back, his gaze bone-chillingly cold. "Why are you following us?"
A police officer walked over and spoke with a hint of hesitation. "Mr. Sterling, the trafficker has been arrested. Ms. Sterling is currently this child's only capable guardian. According to the Civil Code, the child must stay with Ms. Sterling for now."
Charles's expression turned incredibly grim. He stared at me. He looked at me as if I were a pile of rotting garbage.
"Officer, my sister's mental state is very unstable right now. This... wretched child is the nightmare of her life. Forcing her to look at this trafficker's child—wouldn't that just be traumatizing her all over again?"
"We understand the legal procedures, but can't you make an exception? Send her to a local orphanage first. Once my sister is mentally stable, we'll come back for her."
The officer shook his head, his stance firm.
Finally, with extreme reluctance, Charles said to the bodyguard, "Put her in the trunk."
