My Fiancé’s Vicious Scheme Chapter 01
I sent a picture of a cat to my boyfriend, who had just successfully proposed to me.
"From now on, this is the first child we're raising. A fur baby is still a baby."
He patted my head, smiling casually.
"No, this is the second."
I looked excitedly at this man who never usually said sweet things.
I thought he meant that I was his first child.
I happily snuggled into his arms, imagining our beautiful future together.
Until the kindergarten parent-teacher meeting.
I saw my boyfriend leading the child of his late friend into the school.
Just as I was about to step forward and ask, I suddenly heard the little boy speak with grievance.
"I don't want to be a kid without a dad. When are you finally going to admit to Ms. Blair that you are my real dad?"
My boyfriend gently pinched his cheek.
"Once Ms. Blair and I are married, I'll persuade her to adopt you. But until then, you must not let her know about the existence of you and your mother."
The boy nodded obediently.
But I felt as if I had plunged into an ice cave.
It turned out that the first child we were raising was his illegitimate son.
......
"When exactly are you going to let Simon Grant rightfully call you dad?
If this continues, he's going to develop psychological issues."
An unfamiliar voice drifted over, followed by the sight of a familiar face.
Damian Flynn's ex-girlfriend, Elise Grant.
Looking closely now, Simon actually shared a sixty percent resemblance with them.
It was ridiculous that I hadn't noticed a thing over the past two years.
My nails dug into my palms as I watched them masochistically.
Damian frowned.
"Don't use our son as an excuse to demand a status from me. I told you, the only person I will marry in this life is Iris Blair. I lost my feelings for you a long time ago!"
Elise's lowered eyes quickly turned red.
"I didn't mean it like that. You know I have a terminal illness. I just want to find a good home for my son before I die. I don't want him to lose his mother and then be despised by his father."
As her words fell, Damian's eyes instantly softened.
"Focus on your treatment. No matter what, he is my son, and I will take good care of him."
Elise shifted her body, her forehead resting on his shoulder as she trembled.
"But, you two are getting married soon. I'm really afraid that he..."
Damian, however, did not push her away.
"I know your concerns, but don't worry. I've already been giving Iris drugs that cause infertility. When the time comes, I'll produce a premarital medical report showing she's infertile, saying she can't have kids."
"When I suggest adopting a child, she will naturally agree out of guilt, and she will take good care of Simon."
It felt as if a bomb had been dropped right next to my ear.
I never imagined that this man, who had made countless promises to me, would execute such a vicious scheme against me.
I bit my lower lip hard to keep my sobs from making a sound.
His parents had said more than once that they hoped we could have several children in the future.
I loved children too. During my years as a kindergarten teacher, I had always looked forward to having my own.
Every time I saw a cute kid and shared it with Damian, he would say that we would have our own in the future, and they would be even cuter.
I naively thought he was telling the truth, but I never expected that he would make me infertile just to give his illegitimate son a legitimate status.
He knew full well that his mother valued offspring above all else.
If she knew I couldn't have children, I wouldn't be able to establish a foothold in this family at all.
He claimed he had no feelings for her, yet everything he did was for her, for their child.
He claimed he only loved me, yet he personally laid out a marriage full of thorns for me.
I fled this suffocating scene like a madwoman.
On my phone were messages from Damian asking why I wasn't in the classroom.
I turned off my phone and, without hesitation, took a cab to the hospital for a checkup.
The doctor said the medicine I had been taking to regulate my periods contained an ingredient that causes infertility with long-term use.
That was the tonic soup Damian brewed on time every month and fed to me himself.
It turned out the sweetness I thought I had was just sugar-coated arsenic.
I searched for every little detail related to them.
On Elise's social media, there was a complete record of her pregnancy.
For the first six months, she was a single mother running away with a baby bump.
Later, a man's figure frequently appeared in her posts.
[27w+3 days. Couldn't hold back and told my ex about the baby right when he was confessing his love to someone else.
He was angry, but he still gave me the confession gift meant for his girlfriend, and gave her the freebie instead.]
[30w+2 days. The doctor doing my checkup made a dirty joke, and he stood up for me. He even injured his hand and won't be able to perform surgeries for days. So handsome, love him so much.]
[Due date! I said my contractions hurt, and he ran over in the rain to stay with me all night.
Actually, the baby was just kicking a bit hard.]
Seeing that familiar date, goosebumps erupted all over my body.
That was a day I would never forget for the rest of my life.
We were watching the sunset at the top of the mountain. After receiving a call from the hospital, he left me halfway down the road and rushed over.
That night, I was almost assaulted on my way home.
When Damian saw me looking completely disheveled at the police station, he knelt down and apologized.
On many nights, waking up countless times from nightmares, I wondered why he had abandoned me.
I kept consoling myself that he was a doctor, that he had more important things to do, that he didn't belong to me alone.
But only now did I know the truth.
