He Saved Me Just To Destroy Me Chapter 01

When I was sixteen, my stepfather assaulted me. My mother called me a seductive bitch.
The only one who reached out to me was my stepbrother, Dexter Whitaker.
To take me away from that hell, he personally sent them to prison.
To save up money to marry me, he went to the dangerous Golden Triangle region to fight his way through.
Three years later, he became a well-known, successful businessman and finally returned home.
But when I rushed to his company, clutching the bouquet I'd bought with all my savings, I accidentally overheard him talking with his friends.
"Dex, you're finally back from traveling the world with your precious beloved crush.
"But back then, to get revenge for Roxy, you paid off Oriana's stepfather and mother to stage that whole scene... Weren't you afraid she'd leave you if she found out?"
Dexter was silent for a moment before letting out a cold scoff.
"She brought it on herself. Always had to compete with Roxy.
"I'm her savior. How could she ever bring herself to leave me?
"I'm gonna keep her by my side for the rest of her life and then destroy her world and her faith with my own hands."
A wave of mocking laughter came from inside the room.
I collapsed outside the door, wiping my tears away in a daze.
If all my pain was caused by him, then I would return it—completely.

"So when are you dumping that shabby, poor trash?" Roxanne Harper leaned against Dexter's chest, clearly displeased.
"You're not actually catching real feelings for her, are you?"
Dexter lowered his head and kissed Roxanne's soft lips. His eyes, however, held a complexity I couldn't understand.
He said to Roxanne, "No one matters more than you. As for her... I have my own plans."
The room burst into laughter.
"How could a bumpkin like Oriana ever compare to Ms. Harper?"
"She said she went to work at a club to ease Dex's burden. But I bet she must've gotten hooked on being slept with by her stepfather back then. Now she's just using the part-time job as an excuse to find men to sleep with."
Dexter's expression turned slightly cold at those words.
"Don't talk about those dirty things in front of Roxy.
"Also, Oriana works as a waitress. Nothing else."
I stood frozen outside the door, my heart aching with every breath.
I stumbled backward until my back hit the cold wall.
The intense pain cleared my head.
To ease Dexter's burden, I worked as a waitress at a club.
But I always ran into difficult customers, ones who'd even get handsy after drinking, pinning me to the ground and beating me.
Remembering the sufferings I had been through over these five years, I couldn't hold back anymore.
I pushed the door open.
Dexter's expression froze. Instinctively, he pushed Roxanne out of his arms.
Roxanne pouted unhappily. Then, she walked over to me with a provocative smile.
"So you're the stepsister-girlfriend Dex mentioned, the one who got played by her stepfather? You do look quite seductive. No wonder your mom called you a bitch."
I tightened my grip on the flowers and turned to look at Dexter. "You told her?
"You know how much I hate anyone mentioning that."
But Dexter just casually took my hand, his tone indifferent. "Roxy's spoiled and straightforward. Don't take it personally."
Those careless words shattered my heart completely.
Eight years ago, my stepfather violently pinned me to the couch and assaulted me.
I cried and told my mom, only to be called a seductive bitch by her.
Everyone thought it was my fault. Only Dexter believed me, took me out of the darkness, and gave me the only light in my life.
Back then, he held my hand and told me firmly, "No one else will ever know about this, Oria. Don't be afraid.
"As long as I'm here, I won't let you suffer any more injustice."
I believed him.
I believed him until I found that the cause of all my suffering had been carefully arranged by him.
"Dexter, you know me. I was never the type to just endure."
Smiling, I raised the bouquet full of love and smashed it toward Roxanne's face. "Ms. Harper, you picked the wrong person to mess with."
Before it could touch her, Dexter shoved me hard to the ground.
My wound slammed against the cold floor, the half-healed cut oozing fresh blood.
Dexter's gaze was cold and unfamiliar as he shielded Roxanne behind him. "Oria, you never used to be the violent type.
"After all these years apart, you've changed. So unfamiliar."
Staggering to my feet, I picked up the ruined flowers from the floor and tossed them into the trash.
"Dexter, you're the one who feels so unfamiliar now that I realize—I never truly knew you at all."
