Sank With My Daughter’s Ashes And Rose Again Chapter 01
Chapter 1 Gracie’s Death
Thalia Schultz’s daughter was gone.
No funeral, no burial, no money for even a simple grave.
Only a black urn remained, holding the last pieces of her little girl, Gracie Coleman.
On the funeral home TV, a lavish wedding played out. The groom was her recently divorced ex-husband, Gracie’s father, and the bride was the woman he had always wanted, his first love.
His dream finally came true.
Thalia carried the urn out of the crematorium. Rain hammered down from the sky.
A young worker stopped and asked hesitantly, “Ma’am, it’s pouring … Is someone coming to pick you up?”
Thalia glanced at the urn. Her face was pale, drained of any expression.
No one would come. Her only family was busy getting married to his first love. He didn’t care about her or Gracie. He probably wouldn’t even know his daughter was gone.
Even if he knew, he wouldn’t come.
Zach Coleman hated her.
He hated everything that reminded him of her.
A few days ago, Lucille Moore had driven her car and crashed into the bus Thalia and Gracie were on. Gracie was seriously hurt and passed out instantly.
In the chaos, Thalia saw Zach immediately.
She ran to him like a drowning person reaching for a lifeline. “Zach! Gracie’s hurt! She’s dying! Please, take her to the hospital!”
But Zach shoved her aside. Her head hit the ground, and dizziness swept over her like a wave.
“Thalia, cut your fake tears and begging. It’s getting old.”
He looked flustered, holding Lucille’s son, and walked toward the ambulance.
Thalia’s world spun. She clung to his pants desperately, as if she were holding a driftwood in a storm.
“I’m begging you! Gracie’s dying! She’s your daughter too!”
Zach didn’t believe her. He looked at her coldly. “Thalia, I’ve told you, the only child I will ever have is Lucille’s.
“I don’t want you or your daughter. Now, sign the divorce papers.”
He shoved her aside and got into the ambulance with the boy, who was barely scratched.
Thalia’s heart turned to ash. Because she was 30 minutes late, Gracie didn’t get help in time and died on the operating table.
Meanwhile, the boy Zach saved was lively and smiling, playing ring bearer at the wedding, passing the rings to the bride and groom.
Thalia sneered, her voice hoarse as she said to the young worker, “I can go home by myself. Thanks.”
She stepped into the pouring rain.
The worker wanted to follow her but stopped.
She had done what she could and didn’t want to anger Zach.
Thalia walked through the storm, holding her coat over the urn to keep it dry. She leaned forward, shielding it from the rain.
“Gracie, I won’t let you get wet.”
A beam of light cut through the downpour, and a horn honked. A black Maybach pulled up beside her.
She didn’t stop and kept walking stubbornly forward.
…
Half an hour later.
Zach’s home, which now belonged to him and Lucille, was bright with celebration.
Thalia, soaked and messy, stood in the living room, feeling completely out of place.
The servants didn’t even let her step on the freshly cleaned floors, keeping her stuck at the entryway.
Thalia put the urn on the floor and pulled the wet divorce papers from her pocket.
A servant snatched them and accidentally bumped the urn hidden under her coat.
“What’s this? Get it out of here!”
The coat slipped, revealing part of the urn.
Seeing the name on it, the servant froze.
Isn’t that the name of Thalia’s daughter?
Thalia tightened her coat and turned to leave.
An hour later, by the nearby sea.
Thalia hugged the urn while walking into the water.
Her face was pale, her eyes steady and determined.
“Gracie, don’t be scared. I’m gonna go be with you now.”
The water slowly rose, covering her body completely.
…
At the wedding.
Lucille, in a stunning gown, stepped out of the dressing room. She looked graceful and radiant.
“Zach, the guests are waiting. Come toast with me.”
She reached out her delicate hand.
“Sure.” Zach’s eyes softened slightly. He took her hand and led her out.
Suddenly, Derek Bush, Zach’s assistant, rushed in, tense.
“Mr. Coleman, Ms. Schultz drowned herself.”
Everyone froze. One person said, “Ms. Schultz? Do you mean Thalia? She’s his ex. It’s none of his business whether she’s alive or dead. Now get out of here. Don’t ruin the day.”
But Zach strode forward, face dark, glaring at Derek. “What did you say?”
He sneered, almost as if talking to himself. “That’s impossible … Could Thalia be lying again? How could such a cunning woman die?”
Derek’s voice trembled. “Mr. Coleman, it’s true. The rescue team pulled her from the water, and …
“They found her holding her daughter’s urn … ”
The room went silent. Zach, who rarely showed any emotion for Thalia, suddenly stiffened. His eyes narrowed, fixed on the distance.
No one moved. They exchanged nervous glances.
Only Lucille ran forward and grabbed Zach’s hand carefully, her eyes full of worry and longing.
“Zach … ”
Zach didn’t even look at her. He just shook off her hand and walked away.
Lucille’s face turned pale immediately.
