Fight Back Against My Cheating Ex-husband Chapter 01

Chapter 1 Fifty Grand to Sleep With Me? Don’t Push Your Luck

“Fifty grand a month to sleep with me. What more do you want?”
It was a silent night. The man lounged lazily on the sofa, his voice calm, posture relaxed, every inch of him exuding indifference—like the woman standing beside him wasn’t even worth acknowledging.
Lily Ginger’s mind buzzed. The words hit her like a blow, and all the frustration and hurt in her chest instantly froze into something hard and unrelenting.
“Fifty grand? To sleep with you?”
Hot tears slipped down her face as she met his icy gaze. “Jared, I married you. I’m not some paid escort.”
Since when did having money to spend and sleeping with a man become the definition of marriage?
How was this different from prostitution? Just a piece of paper made it legal?
Was this what marriage meant to him?
No. This was what Jared Bolt thought she was worth—just this kind of marriage.
Three hours ago, Lily had received a surveillance video.
Late at night, a woman dressed provocatively knocked on the door of Jared’s presidential suite.
He answered, let her in, and three hours later, she walked out.
Sounded about right for Jared’s stamina. At first, she told herself the woman was probably just a disposable fling during a business trip.
He had a high sex drive. In the two years they’d been married, aside from when she had her period, he wanted it every night.
She made up a thousand excuses, forced herself to stay calm. There had to be a reason.
Today was Jared’s birthday. She didn’t want to upset him, so she planned to ask about it tomorrow.
She had made him a fondant tiger cake and prepared a surprise, just like she always did.
In their two years of marriage, she had celebrated every birthday and anniversary alone, planning everything with hope in her heart.
She thought he just wasn’t a romantic guy—until she saw the news that he had rented out the largest hotel in Riverville to throw a birthday bash for the company’s vice president, Sarah Lynn.
He handed out red envelopes to tens of thousands of employees, just to make Sarah smile.
He even gave her seven-figure jewelry in front of dozens of cameras.
And now, the limited-edition black tie around his neck—Sarah had personally tied it on him an hour ago.
If it were just a birthday party or a surveillance video, maybe it wouldn’t mean anything.
But what if both involved the same woman?
Lily recognized her right away. The woman in the video, the one locking eyes with Jared at the party, smiling like sunshine—was Sarah.
She couldn’t take it anymore, but she still held on to a shred of hope. Maybe… maybe it was all a misunderstanding?
So she cautiously asked, “Jared, how come you never mentioned that the company VP who’s always traveling with you is a woman?”
“Work matters aren’t your concern,” Jared replied coldly.
He drank the hangover remedy she had given him, glanced at her phone showing the headline about Sarah’s birthday, and didn’t say a single word.
Lily pressed her lips together, trying again. “Throwing a party for a female subordinate—is that part of your job too?”
Jared frowned slightly, his dark, unreadable eyes landing on her.
Those eyes were like an endless night sky, vast and cold, reflecting her small, shrinking figure.
His displeasure surrounded her like a tide.
“My business doesn’t concern you. Pack a bag—I’m heading out for a trip.”
He was firm. Not only did he refuse to explain the headline about putting another woman in the spotlight, he didn’t even allow her to ask about it.
Lily couldn’t hold it in anymore. “We’re married. Why can’t I ask? The jewelry you gave her cost millions, and that came from our shared assets. I have the right to know where that money went!”
“You think I need your permission to spend a few million on her? When your Ginger family siphoned billions off me, I didn’t hear you doing the math then.”
Jared stood up abruptly, his sharp features tinged with coldness.
Yes, their marriage was secret. But after the wedding, the Ginger family had leapt at every chance to suck resources from him. Lily knew that.
But she still didn’t understand. “That’s different. We’re husband and wife. She’s not me!”
“You’re the one who’s not her.”
The contempt in Jared’s gaze was like a blade laced with barbs, stabbing straight into her heart and ripping it out. “A few million is nothing. It’s a drop in the bucket compared to what she brings in. What exactly are you comparing?”
Her heart cracked open. Bleeding. Crushed.
She had never seen him look at her with such utter coldness.
It was like the man who lost control in bed, whispered sweet nothings in her ear, had never existed.
“If she’s so amazing, then marry her. Why did you even marry me?” Her voice trembled, her eyes turning red. “Wasn’t it because you liked me?”
Her vision blurred until all she could make out was his silhouette.
Deep brown eyes, long and narrow. A high-bridged nose, thin lips, shoulders broad and trim waist, all wrapped in a custom black suit. Cold and elegant.
She had seen this face every day for two years, and still, it made her heart race.
He was handsome, capable, and came from a good family—she couldn’t find a single flaw.
Their parents were the ones pushing the idea that they’d be a good fit.
The first time her parents introduced him to her, she fell for him instantly.
As for whether Jared had ever liked her… she remembered.
Two years ago, after the Ginger family’s investment collapse, her father had tried to marry her off to an old man for cash. It was Jared who stepped in and said he would marry her. That’s how she got to stand here today as his wife.
So she’d believed… he must have liked her too, right?
But now it was clear—he liked someone else.
Someone who could stand beside him in the business world. Someone he saw as better than the housewife he thought Lily was.
But before she married him, Lily had been a top student at a prestigious university and a rising star in interior design.
She gave all of that up for him. She agreed to a secret marriage, agreed to stay out of the spotlight just to support him.
Jared seemed to find her question laughable. He drained the rest of his remedy and turned to head upstairs.
“If you never liked me, then let’s just get divorced!” Lily blurted out, eyes shut tight.
A marriage without love—wasn’t what she wanted.
She could accept a cold husband. But not one who was only cold to her.
Her outburst, in Jared’s eyes, was irrational.
He looked down at her and said flatly, “Fifty grand a month to sleep with me. You should be grateful.”
To him, this wasn’t a marriage. It was a deal.
He didn’t even think the idea of “sleeping fee” was outrageous. He added, as if correcting her, “Am I wrong? If we get divorced, you think you can go back to the Ginger family and live like a princess again? Lily, don’t be naïve. Be smart.”
“I’m fully capable of supporting myself. I don’t need the Ginger family to survive.” Lily wiped away her tears, walked past him, and dragged a white suitcase out from the corner. She started packing.
