Left My Ex-Husband I Pretend To Be Died Chapter 01

On the day Samantha Chapman was diagnosed with stomach cancer, Hudson Ashley was busy accompanying his beloved Jennifer White to the hospital to get their son’s check-up.
In the hospital corridor, Wesley Barrett held the biopsy report with a grim expression, saying, “Samantha, the results are in. It’s a stage 3A malignant tumor. If the surgery is successful, the five-year survival rate is between 15% and 30%.”
Samantha’s slender fingers tightened around the strap of her handbag, her pale face filled with solemnity. “Wesley, how long do I have left if I don’t have surgery?”
“Six months to a year, it varies. Your best option is to undergo two rounds of chemotherapy before surgery to prevent further spread and metastasis,” Wesley explained.
Samantha bit her lip, struggling to speak. “Thank you.”
“No need to thank me. I’ll arrange your admission,” Wesley replied, though his voice betrayed concern.
“I won’t need that. I’m not going through with the treatment. I can’t bear it,” Samantha said softly.
Wesley tried to say more, but Samantha bowed her head and added, “Wesley, please keep this to yourself. I don’t want my family to worry.”
The Chapman family was bankrupt, and Samantha was already drained trying to cover her father Theo’s enormous medical costs. Telling her family about her diagnosis would only add to their burdens.
With a resigned sigh, Wesley said, “Don’t worry, I’ll keep it between us. I heard you’re married now. How’s your husband handling it?”
“Wesley, please take good care of my father. I have to take care of something else, so I’ll be leaving now.”
Samantha seemed to avoid the subject, not waiting for his response as she hurriedly walked away.
Wesley shook his head, recalling how she had abandoned her promising medical career to marry young—a brilliant medical prodigy who once seemed destined for greatness, only to now be left with nothing but scars.
For the past two years, it had been Samantha alone caring for her father, and even when she had fallen ill, a stranger had brought her to the hospital. Her husband was nowhere to be seen.
Samantha thought back to her first year of marriage when Hudson had truly been kind to her, but everything changed after Jennifer returned to the country pregnant. Both she and Jennifer had fallen into the water.
While struggling, Samantha saw Hudson desperately swim toward Jennifer. Both women gave birth prematurely due to the shock, and by the time Samantha was rescued, it was too late. Their child had died in her womb.
Seven days later, Hudson filed for divorce, though she never agreed to it.
Now, faced with her illness, Samantha had no more strength to resist.
With trembling hands, she dialed his number. After three rings, his cold voice answered, “I won’t see you unless it’s about the divorce.”
Tears welled up in Samantha’s eyes, and she swallowed the words she had meant to say. Then, Jennifer’s voice interrupted the call. “Hudson, the baby needs the check-up now.”
At that moment, Samantha’s long-suppressed tears fell freely. Her child was gone, her family destroyed, and Hudson had built a new one with someone else.
It was time for it all to end.
Without the pleading tone she once used, Samantha’s voice was barely above a whisper. “Hudson, let’s get a divorce.”
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Hudson sneered, “Samantha, what are you up to now?”
Samantha closed her eyes, every word deliberate. “I’ll be at home waiting for you.”
Hanging up the phone drained the last of her energy. Samantha slid to the floor, and the heavy rain outside soaked her as she cried silently, holding the phone in her hand, biting her sleeve.
Hudson stared at the sudden disconnect with confusion. In the past year of silent tension, she had refused to divorce. Hudson wondered why she had suddenly changed her mind.
Her voice, tinged with unshed tears, echoed in his mind as he walked out of the diagnostic room.
“Hudson, where are you going?” Jennifer, holding their baby, rushed out, but all she saw was Hudson’s rapidly retreating figure. His once-gentle face had turned dark with rage.
Jennifer thought to herself, ‘That bitch still hasn’t given up.’
Hudson had not stepped into their marital home for a long time. He had expected Samantha to have prepared his favorite dishes, but when he arrived, the house was empty and cold, not a light on.
The winter nights came early. It was only just after six, and the sky was already dark.
His eyes moved to the wilted flowers on the dining table.
Samantha was the kind of woman who would never let flowers die like this unless she had been away, likely at the hospital.
