Minister Readies 10 Thousand Soybean Seeds to Boost Local Production
In a bid to strengthen national food security and reduce reliance on imports, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has announced a plan to deploy 10 thousand superior soybean seeds. This initiative aims to boost domestic soybean production, particularly in response to rising prices of imported soybeans that have impacted tempeh entrepreneurs.
Addressing the Soybean Challenge
Soybeans are a staple in Indonesia, widely used in traditional foods like tempeh and tofu. However, the country has long depended on imports, making local businesses vulnerable to global price fluctuations. Minister Sulaiman's plan seeks to increase productivity to three tons per hectare, ensuring a sustainable supply for domestic consumption.
A Modern Approach to Agriculture
The project will be closely monitored using a new system from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), ensuring efficiency and success. The minister emphasized that this is not merely a trial but a strategic move to accelerate soybean development alongside other key commodities like wheat.
Government Commitment to Food Security
President Prabowo Subianto has also stressed the importance of accelerating national food production, including soybeans, through modern agricultural systems. While the specific locations for the soybean seed deployment have not been disclosed, strict supervision will be implemented to guarantee production targets are met.
With this initiative, Indonesia moves closer to reducing its dependence on imported soybeans, ensuring a more stable and self-sufficient agricultural sector.
