Ukrainian forces clashed with invading Russian forces on three sides after Moscow launched a land, sea and air attack in the largest attack on a European country since World War II, which prompted tens of thousands to flee their homes.
A senior US defense official said that Russian forces are making progress towards the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, while Moscow continues to push military reinforcements into Ukraine.
The official, who asked not to be named, added that Russia has so far fired more than 160 missiles at Ukrainian targets, noting that there is no evidence that Russian forces have captured Odessa or are attacking it.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said he had spoken to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who told him of plans to deliver new defensive weapons to help Ukraine defend itself .
