For a country brimming with success Olympics badminton, Indonesia wrote another chapter in their storied history at the Tokyo Games on Saturday morning with Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu guaranteeing a first-ever medal in the women's doubles.

The Indonesian duo had already made history by becoming the first female pair from their country to reach the semi-finals at the Olympics, but went one better by beating Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan of South Korea 21-19, 21-17 to advance into the final.

They will now face China's Jia Yifan and Chen Qingchenin the gold medal match on Monday, after the second seeds cruised past another South Korean pair in Kong Hee-yong and Kim So-yeong 21-15, 21-11 in the other last-four encounter.

They will now wait to find out who their opponents are in the gold medal match, with China's Jia Yifan and Chen Qingchen taking on another South Korean pair in Kong Hee-yong and Kim So-yeong in the other last-four encounter.

All seven previous gold medals that Indonesia have won at the games have come in badminton, with the women's doubles the only category they had yet to medal in prior to Tokyo 2020.
