Chinese restaurants banned from serving food to Africans as country records 46 new COVID-19 cases


The tribulations haunting Africans living in China continued to unfold on Friday, April 10, when hotels in the Asian country were reportedly ordered not to serve food to people of the African race.

The move was undertaken by the authorities as a measure to curb the surge in numbers of new of COVID-19 infections after 46 cases were confirmed pon Friday, majority of whom were from foreign nationals.

According to the U.S. consulate in China's southern city, authorities in Guangzhou have instituted thorough scrutiny of foreigners particularly Africans whom they suspect as potential carriers of the virus.

The authorities have also directed bars and restaurants not to serve clients who appear to be of African origin.

China, where coronavirus began in December 2019, resumed normal operations in mid March after recording a series of zero infecti


ons in most of its worst-hit cities of Wuhan and Guangzhou.
The country also ended a lockdown and lifted curbs on foreign travels which were issued in January to help combat the spread of the disease.
However, there has been a spike in new infections most of which health officials noted were from foreign nationals travelling in the country.

This prompted the Asian country to warn the world against possibility of a second wave of the deadly virus which has so far claimed over 94, 000 lives and infected more than 1.6 million others.

The new infection cases have put foreign nationals particularly Africans in tough social and economic condition as most have been widely rejected and evicted by landlords and even employers.
Many have been forced to spend nights on cold streets and persevere the pains of hunger and solitude of the deserted walking lanes.
