Chinese man accused of throwing one-year-old son from sixth-floor window



A man has been detained by police in southwest China after his one-year-old son plunged to his death from a sixth-floor window on Friday night.
The 29-year-old, surnamed Zhang, is accused of throwing the child from the window of his flat in Dazhou, Sichuan province, after an argument over money.

District police said in a statement on Saturday that officers responded to calls about the incident at about midnight on Friday and that Zhang had been taken into custody while the case was investigated.

Zhang's mother, surnamed Qin, told Red Star News that her son, a driver for a ride-hailing app, had come home on Friday night and was playing with the child in the living room when she began to berate him about his lack of financial support for her grandson.
Zhang was having financial and marital problems, the report quoted his mother as saying.The argument escalated and Zhang threw the boy out of the window, Qin said. She cried out and ran down the stairs to get to the child.

A video of Qin, sitting on the ground and crying as she cradled his body, has gone viral on Chinese social media, with internet users expressing anger and sympathy about the incident.

"The child was innocent, no matter what kind of an argument you had with others," one said.
