A man in eastern China had a long rod stuck in his bowels on New Year's Day after inserting it into his backside to 'seek excitement', according to Chinese media.

The object, reported to be a 'glass rod', initially became stuck in the man's rectum and it gradually moved up into his large intestine, said doctors from a hospital in Hangzhou.

The stick was said to be around 25 centimetres (9.8 inches) long with a diameter of around five centimetres (two inches).

When he first arrived at the hospital, he was in a hurry and looked agonised,' Bao Xiangdong, a colorectal surgeon from Zhejiang Tongde Hospital, told Hangzhou Comprehensive Channel.

Surgeon Bao said the patient was shy and refused to go into details of his condition, but he begged Bao 'save me, save me'.

A CT scan showed that the rod had become stuck in the patient's sigmoid colon, the part of one's large intestine closest to the rectum.
