HONG Kong comedy actor Stephen Chow , who was supposed to be the producer of The New King of Comedy, has become the director instead, Sin Chew Daily reported.

This was based on the information in the movie’s trailer.

Herman Yau Lai-to, who was earlier announced as the director, declined to comment.

The film will be screened on the first day of Chinese New Year in China.

In 2016, Chow directed The Mermaid, which collected 3.4 billion yuan in box office revenue in China.
