Dozens of protesters calling for the end of the Columbus Day commemoration because of atrocities he committed against native people led a march yesterday from Park Street to the statue of the 15th century explorer in the North End.

“Christopher Columbus was a genocidal slave-trader,” read one sign that a protester hung around the statue’s neck.

“Columbus Day celebrates genocide,” read another.
