A Lucky Air flight was grounded after a passenger threw coins at the engine

An elderly passenger reportedly grounded a plane at a Chinese airport by tossing coins into its engine for luck - the second incident of its type this year.

Mechanics were forced to perform a full examination of the engine of the Lucky Air flight, while the other passengers were forced to wait for an alternative flights at Anqing airport in the eastern Anhui province.

She was flying with … Lucky Air, but that was not enough for an old Chinese who threw coins on the airplane turbine to wish for a safe flight: The authorities arrested her and the flight was canceled.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Anqing Airport in Anhui Province of eastern China, according to the French Agency, and was the second episode this year where an elderly Chinese threw coins on the airplane engine and created chaos.

According to airline, airport and police authorities, the coins were thrown into Lucky Air’s aircraft engine during boarding, and the ground crew later found coins at many points around the airplane.

In June, another 80-year-old preventative woman delayed China Southern Airlines flight to Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport for about six hours after throwing nine coins to the engine.

The woman was detained, but she was finally released because of her age. The authorities at Shanghai Airport said they were a faithful Buddhist and believed that the act would ensure its safety on the flight to the southern city of Guangzhou.
