The Oscar-winning actor will be playing the caveman protagonist, Dug, as seen on the official poster.
“Not only is Eddie a joy to work with, his versatility and boundless energy have really helped to bring my new character to life," said director Park.
"He embodies the cheeky charm, fun and plucky wit of Dug and I’m sure he’ll get along brilliantly with Dug’s sidekick Hognob.”
According to the official synopsis, the stop motion feature is set at the dawn of time when woolly mammoths and dinosaurs roamed the earth.
One plucky caveman must unite his tribe against a mighty enemy and save the day, while also accidentally inventing football.
Just looking at the poster, it almost looks like the main characters are a prehistoric Wallace and Gromit, except that Gromit is replaced by an early pig called Hognob.
This is the first time Park has worked behind the camera since his Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of The Were-Rabbit.
Apart from the Yorkshire-based inventor and his pooch, Park co-directed Mel Gibson in Chicken Run at the Bristol-based studio.
The film is on a bigger scale than is usual for Aardman, with Studio Canal financing and distributing the project.
The studio have already started an expansion into family comedies after the worldwide success of Paddington and Shaun the Sheep.
Redmayne will next be seen in another kid-friendly movie at the end of this year called Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, as Newt Scamander in the 1920s New York set Harry Potter spin-off.
