Firis is the main protagonist and player character of Atelier Firis. Firis must first spend one year to study for an exam to become an ceritified alchemist to be allowed to continue her travels by her parents.

Firis also has several different costumes available throughout the game. The costumes each have an effect on the gameplay attached to them, such as improving harvest results or movement speed.

The older sister of Firis Mistlud. As she's an excellent hunter, she is one of the few people who can leave the town of Eltona.

She deeply loves her younger sister and her doting nature is famous among the village. Being sympathetic to Firis's wish to leave the village,

She's secretly worried about her younger sister's current circumstances.

Ilmeria is an alchemist who isn't shy about calling herself a genius. She is a rival of sorts to Firis. She has a childish personality and hates to lose, but she's also hardworking. Despite her alchemy skills, she is not yet a licensed alchemist.

She comes from a family known for its talented alchemists, which has put a lot of pressure on her. She struggles with getting her efforts recognized by her parents, who are both skilled alchemists.

Revy is a wandering swordsman. People tend to find his apperance frightening, and for the most part he has a serious personality. However, he can also have a bit of a careless side and his special skill is actually housework.

After her parents' death, Sophie lived together with her grandmother who was an alchemist and learned very basic alchemic skills from her. After the death of her grandmother, Sophie makes it her goal to become an alchemist who can be relied upon just as her grandmother was, yet at the start of Atelier Sophie is relatively inexperienced and without any renown as an alchemist.
