WENCHANG, Hainan, June 22 (Xinhua) -- China plans to launch its new generation carrier rocket the Long March-7 between Saturday and Wednesday from a new launch location in south China, according to the manned space engineering office on Wednesday.

Engineers despatched the 53-meter, 597-tonne, vertical-standing rocket to the launch pad by rail on Wednesday morning from the assembly and testing building. The 2,700-meter trip alone took three hours.

The rocket will stay on the launch pad until at least Saturday, the beginning of its five-day launch window.

The Long March-7 is a medium-sized rocket that can carry up to 13.5 tonnes to low-Earth orbit. Earlier reports said it will use a new liquid fuel that is environmental friendly and less expensive.

It is expected it will become the main carrier for China's space missions. Its main role in the future will be to transport cargo ships to China's planned space stations, due to enter service around 2022, as well as satellites and other spacecraft.

The rocket arrived in Wenchang in south China's Hainan Province by sea in May for final assembly and testing.

The Long March-7 mission will be the first launch from Wenchang, the fourth launch site in China.

Among the other three, Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Dessert is currently the nation's only manned spacecraft launch center, while Xichang in southwest China's Sichuan Province is mainly used to launch powerful-thrust rockets and geostationary satellites.

The third, Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province, is capable of launching satellites into both medium and low orbits.

Wenchang's location, being much closer to the equator than the other three, means it could considerably save fuel. The tropical weather, however, is another source of concern.

Chinese engineers say the Long March-7 rockets can hold up in gales of up to 20.7 meters per second, which is strong enough to make cars veer on the road and impede progress on foot.

The Wenchang site was completed in November 2014. It has a launch pad for the Long March-7 and another for the new generation heavy-lift Long March-5, which has a payload capacity of 25 tonnes to low Earth orbit, or 14 tonnes to geostationary transfer orbit.

Earlier reports said the Long March-5 will also make its debut later this year, and, around 2017, will carry the Chang'e-5 lunar probe into space, finishing China's three-step -- orbiting, landing and return -- moon exploration program.

As China's next generation of carrier rocket, the Long March-7 is readying itself in the country's southernmost island province of Hainan, waiting for the launch window predicted for later this month.

Though not obviously larger in size than its Long March siblings, the carrying capacity of the Long March-7 has increased by a large margin.

"Our rocket carrying capacity for lower orbits used to be between 8 and 9 tons; the Long March-7 now has a carrying capacity of up to 14 tons. From 8 to 14 tons, the increase is very big," says Fan Ruixiang, chief designer of Long March-7.


This new generation of carrier rocket now resorts to kerosene and low-temperature liquid oxygen as fuels which result in a 50-percent increase of thrust on a single engine within the rocket proper.

The combustion of kerosene and low-temperature oxygen is capable of providing a combined maximum 720 tons of liftoff thrust. The combustion only results in carbon dioxide and water which are environmentally friendly.

"Hainan is an island of treasure for our nation. To launch rockets from Hainan, we must be able to go green. All propellants used by Long March-7 are green and clean. They are friendly and suitable for the mission here," says Wang Xiaojun, Long March-7's commander in charge.

The launch platform takes care of the carrier rocket before its liftoff to space. The launch platform serving Long March-7 is more than just a movable. It is a combination of various networks of high-precision command and control and mechanical systems.

Three kilometers separate the assembly vault and the launch pad. Long March-7 will use most of the existing tracks for Long March-5's in its maneuver from the vault to the pad, to avoid constructing new tracks which would damage local vegetation. But the environmental considerateness has led to four 90-degree turns along its way.

"The launch platform comes out of the assembly vault. It moves along the straight track before making a turn to position. So this launch platform is capable of automatically taking the turn. The straight track has been used by Long March-5 series," says Fan Hong, deputy chief engineer of Long March-7's Ground Support System.

HONG KONG, June 24 (UPI) -- China has completed development on a "super rocket" which could be used for the purposes of manned lunar exploration by 2031.

The China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology stated on Saturday, local time, the new rocket can be used for manned lunar exploration, unmanned explorations of Mars, state-owned news agency Xinhua reported Saturday, local time.

"If all goes to plan, the first launch could be achieved within 15 years," CALT said in its statement.

China is also preparing another launch that could take place as early as this Saturday, Space Flight Insider reported Friday.

The Long March-7 measures 53.1 meters vertically and is a medium-lift two-stage launch vehicle also developed by CALT.

The new rocket can transport cargo for China's planned space station, and is expected to serve as the main launcher for future missions, according to the report.

"During the launching process, we will also monitor all the environmental data to provide a reference for future rockets," said Zhang Zhengping, an expert at CALT.

The Long March rocket launch scheduled for sometime this week will be viewed by as many as 25,000 spectators, the South China Morning Post reported Thursday.

There are eight designated viewing areas including public parks and a private hotel beach.

The launch window is open until Wednesday in case of bad weather.

"The launch will open a new chapter in the history of Chinese space exploration," a Chinese scientist said.

Roket terbaru, yang dikembangkan oleh China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) di bawah the China Aerospace Science And Technology Corporation (CASC), bertujuan untuk memberikan peningkatan kehandalan dan kemampuan beradaptasi, biaya yang lebih rendah dan waktu persiapan, serta memungkinkan muatan yang lebih berat diletakkan ke orbit.

1. Statistik Rocket

53-meter-tinggi, 3.35m-diameter Long March 7 akan mampu mengangkat hingga 13,5 ton ke orbit bumi rendah dan meluncurkan satelit besar pada ketinggian untuk orbit geosynchronous.

Dengan berat hampir 600 ton, beratnya roket kira-kira setara dengan enam paus biru atau hampir 10.000 orang.

Menurut Prof. Huang Jun di Beihang University, roket generasi terbaru ini menggunakan desain modular yang universal yang dapat dengan mudah digabungkan menjadi varian roket baru untuk berbagai misi.

2. Pengisian sebuah stasiun ruang angkasa

CZ-7 telah secara khusus dirancang untuk meluncurkan kapal kargo yang akan mengisi bahan bakar dan memasok untuk Stasiun Antariksa China masa depan.

Tes pertama dari kapal kargo Tianzhou akan berlangsung sekitar April tahun depan, dan mengisi bahan bakar laboratorium ruang Tiangong-2 setelah dikunjungi oleh dua astronot di bulan Oktober. Modul pertama CSS, Tianhe-1, akan diluncurkan pada tahun 2018.

Setelah membuktikan keandalannya, Long March 7 dan variannya akan mengambil alih sebagai roket pengangkut utama untuk program luar angkasa China dan juga mengganti Long March 2F yang digunakan untuk misi berawak.

3. Bahan bakar ramah lingkungan

Mesin yang baru kriogenik Long March 5, 6 dan 7 roket menggunakan hasil olahan bahan bakar RP-1 kerosene dengan pengoksidasi oksigen cair. Propelan ini lebih murah, memberikan dorongan lebih dan menghasilkan jauh lebih aman dan bebas polusi daripada produk yang sangat beracun, campuran hypergolic hidrazin bahan bakar digunakan kendaraan peluncur China saat ini.

Hal ini juga bisa berpotensi memungkinkan mesin dapat digunakan kembali di masa depan.

Oksigen cair didinginkan di Long March 7 tank sampai -183 derajat Celcius, menurut Wang Xiaojun dari CALT, sebelum membakar propelan sekitar 3.000 derajat.

4. Pengiriman

China membangun Long March 2, 3, dan 4 roket yang diproduksi di Tianjin di Cina Utara, dan diangkut dengan kereta api ke tiga lokasi peluncuran dipedalaman Jiuquan dan di Taiyuan utara dan di Xichang barat daya.

Namun Long March 5 dan 7 roket baru yang lebih besar akan dikirim dari Tianjin ke pusat peluncuran pantai baru di provinsi selatan Pulau Hainan oleh dua kapal Yuanwang secara khusus dibuat.

Ini lebih mudah dan aman, karena jaringan kereta api China tidak akan mampu menangani kelebihan 5m panjang Long March 5.

5. Pusat peluncuran baru

Peluncuran dibulan Juni juga akan menjadi yang pertama dari Pusat Peluncuran Satelit baru Wenchang di Hainan. Wenchang dibangun selama enam tahun dengan biaya lima miliar yuan (US $800 juta), dan tujuan-dibangun untuk Long March 5 dan 7 roket.

Orbital yang diluncurkan dari Wenchang akan mengambil keuntungan dari kecepatan rotasi yang lebih besar bumi di lintang rendah dibandingkan dengan basis lainnya China, yang dimana lebih hemat bahan bakar.

Memindahkan peluncuran sekitar dekat laut juga berarti insiden berkurang dari hujan puing-puing roket diatas wilayah yang berpenghuni.

6. Tahan cuaca

Sementara Wenchang memiliki keuntungannya, juga ada tantangan, terutama dari iklim, seperti yang terjadi baru-baru ini oleh tornado yang melanda daerah tersebut.

Untuk mengatasi cuaca tropis, Long March 5 dan 7 telah dirancang untuk mampu bertahan dan meluncur selama hujan yang tidak menentu dan mampu hadapi angin sekitar Hainan yang lebih kencang dibandingkan dengan situs peluncuran lainnya.

7. Pesawat ruang angkasa berawak baru

Peluncuran perdana Long March 7 akan memiliki muatan yang menarik: versi skala-down dari kapsul re-entry Cina baru untuk spaceflight manusia.

Kapsul adalah bagian dari pekerjaan untuk mengembangkan dua generasi pesawat ruang angkasa berawak multi-tujuan untuk pesawat ruang angkasa Shenzhou yang saat ini berhasil . Ini akan dirancang untuk mengangkut kru atau kargo ke orbit Bumi rendah dan seterusnya, termasuk kemungkinan misi ke Bulan, Lagrange Points, dekat asteroid bumi dan mungkin, yang lebih jauh dimasa depan, Mars.
