Queen ngamuk lagunya dipakai untuk kampanye politik.
After securing the final round of the Republican primaries on June 7, celebrity businessman Donald Trump appeared on US television with iconic British rock band Queen’s hit song "We Are the Champions" roaring like some kind of “theme song”.
When an “avalanche” of fan complaints flooded into their inbox, Queen released a statement denouncing the Republican presidential nominee’s unwarranted use of their song.
Lead guitarist Brian May, 68, told CNN: “Regardless of our views on Mr. Trump’s platform, it has always been against our policy to allow Queen music to be used as a political campaign tool.”
“Our music embodies our own dreams and beliefs, but it is for all who care to listen and enjoy.”
Written by the group’s late lead singer, Freddie Mercury, "We Are The Champions" serves as an enduring celebratory anthem heard during sports finals.
In a response to a fan message on the letter section of his website, May also said, “I will make sure we take what steps we can to dissociate ourselves from Donald Trump’s unsavory campaign.”
Queen isn’t the first in the music industry to voice concerns over Trump’s misuse of songs. Already on the list were R.E.M’s "It’s the End of the World as We Know It", Rolling Stone’s "Start Me Up" and Aerosmith’s "Dream On", as well as Adele’s "Skyfall" and "Rolling in the Deep".
Previously, in response to requests to discontinue the use of songs, Trump made distasteful comebacks on Twitter. However, for the case with Queen, Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. (sab/asw)
