Australian Federal Police launch raids in Melbourne
HEAVILY armed police have conducted anti-terror raids in Melbourne’s northwest this afternoon.
The operation involved officers from the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police.
A large police presence including armoured vehicles and officers carrying assault rifles descended on a street in Greenvale.
It’s unknown if the operation is related to recent anti-terror raids.

“Victoria Police, in conjunction with the AFP, is conducting a police operation in the northern metropolitan area this afternoon,” a Victoria Police statement said.
“As this relates to an ongoing investigation, it is not appropriate to comment further.”
A nearby resident told the Herald Sun he saw two bearded men of Middle Eastern appearance being led into a police vehicle.
“They were handcuffed,’’ he said.
Neither appeared to be speaking or resisting police at the time.
The resident said his mum arrived home about 1.45pm to discover streets in the area blocked off.
At least four police divisional vans and a four-wheel drive were at the scene.
“They were scattered all over Greenvale - unmarked police cars and marked police cars,’’ the resident said.
“They were just everywhere.”
The resident said he did not know who lived at the home but a friend who lived closer said they appeared to keep to themselves.

“He said they are very quiet,’’ the resident said.
“They never spoke to them or anything. I think it’s probably the perfect spot to not really notice anything.
“It’s a pretty big house. It’s got a massive fence next to it so you can’t really look into it.
“You wouldn’t know what they are doing. It’s not something you expect to be literally in Greenvale.”
Residents had reported police using a robot-type device fitted with a camera to inspect the house and there was also suggestions they had scoped out the house earlier posing as tradespeople.
Both reports were unconfirmed.
Today’s raid comes as 18-year-old Harun Causevic was refused bail on unrelated charges over an alleged terrorist plot planned for Anzac Day.
