On Saturday, March 21, Ingalls Shipbuilding will christen the tenth San Antonio-class Amphibious Transport Dock John P. Murtha (LPD 26). The ship is named for Congressman John P. Murtha. As a 37-year Marine and 36-year member of the House of Representatives, Murtha dedicated his life to serving his country. Read more about John P. Murtha.

His daughter, Ms. Donna S. Murtha serves as Ship Sponsor and will perform the traditional honor of breaking a bottle of American sparkling wine across the ship's bow during the christening ceremony. Read more about the sponsor.

For safety reasons, the bottle of sparkling wine is encased in sheetmetal in the Ingalls shops and wrapped by a shipbuilder in decorative ribbons of red, white and blue.
