Where Did It Begin?

BNI's origins go back to 1985 in Southern California where Dr Ivan R Misner was looking for a new way of generating business for his business consulting company. Dr. Misner invited several friends, each representing a different business together to find a way to help each find new business. Ten years later, in 1995, BNI had evolved into a Franchise business with Mr. Hari Purnomo developing the BNI Franchise for Indonesia.

BNI Directors have added more to the knowledge and understanding of word-of-mouth referral marketing more than ANY OTHER organization or company. During the past eleven years, an average of one book per year was written and published about success through referral marketing by BNI Directors. Two of those books actually made their way to the Best Sellers List. This helps reassure members that they are getting the most up-to-date knowledge and understanding about generating business through referrals.

In 1996, the UK/European BNI operation was formed, which marked the beginning of BNI's expansion across five continents. Now operating in 36 countries, BNI has more than 4,800 chapters and 90,000 members, and clearly deserves the title of global leader in the industry of word-of-mouth referral marketing.

BNI Indonesia, with its eight-year proven track record is making a significant influence in the marketing industry. There are more than 400 BNI chapters operating in most all Provinces all supervised by BNI Directors and Ambassadors. It is clear that BNI Indonesia offers the best value option for generating word-of-mouth referrals to one's business and is the premier choice for referrals.


How Does It Operate?

If you are a professional in private practice, an entrepreneurial tradesman, operate a business, or have a position in sales, you have a strong potential for building your sales revenues through a BNI chapter.

Becoming a member of BNI is like instantly acquiring a new team of sales people to help you find referral opportunities for your business. You must become a member of a BNI chapter. This happens through a formal application process initiated with the local chapter. Once accepted by the chapter's membership committee, you will be the only person in the chapter able to market for business referrals. BNI allows only one person per business category to join a chapter.

Your classification may already be taken in your nearest chapter. In these cases every endeavor will be made to place you in another suitable chapter. Astonishing results have been achieved by people from a very diverse range of businesses through involvement with BNI; you owe it to yourself to check BNI out.

BNI meetings are held weekly. It is expected that our members attend every meeting and in circumstances where they can't, a substitute should be sent. Success in BNI takes time. It is all about building relationships with your fellow chapter members and developing a good understanding of their businesses.

This program is more like farming than it is like hunting - it needs to be nurtured and results happen over time.


What Does It Cost?

Your initial investment in BNI is for 12 months, which represents less than a small size display ad in a major city daily newspaper.

The most important investment is your time. It will take time to get to know the other BNI members in your chapter and for them to get to know you. BNI strategies help reduce the time required to give and receive referrals more than any other organization. Members need to be prepared to invest their time every week in developing and enhancing their commitment to word-of-mouth marketing.

The return on one's investment can be positive within the first six months if the program is worked consistently and conscientiously.

BNI is a business like other service enterprises and uses the membership revenue to maintain the program's integrity and continuously add enhancements to the program which have proven to increase the generation of referrals within the chapter. There is no other business referral or business networking organization that commits as many resources to on-going research, development and membership training as BNI.

How To Join?

The first step is to visit a chapter or chapters in your region to ensure that BNI is something you feel will add value to your business. At the same time you might like to run a category search in the Trade Directory to find who else from your trade or profession is already an active member of BNI - you may be surprised at how many of your competitors you find!

All chapters are listed on the website - however as we only permit one person per trade or profession in a chapter - the next step is to contact the BNI Regional Director for the chapter you are interested in prior to your visit to ensure that there is a vacancy for you.

Following your visit - if you decide you would like to apply to join a chapter - you will need to submit your application form together with your payment to the chapter Leadership Team for review. You need to be sponsored by an existing member and are required to provide two business references for follow up by the chapter Leadership Team as part of the review process.

In the event that there is no vacancy for you at the present time - please contact the BNI Regional office nearest to your location and ask about starting a BNI Chapter with you as a founding core member. BNI Directors are the most expert at starting new chapters.
