A policeman was slashed to death and another seriously injured when they were attacked by a group of Indonesians while patrolling one of the crime hotspots in Klang early today.

Corporal Raja Aizam Raja Mohd, 53, died from injuries to the head while Mohd Aidil Mustafa, 29, sustained facial and head injuries in the 5am incident at Taman Sentosa, some 40km from Kuala Lumpur.

Raja Aizam was found slumped in a drain. He was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Mohd Aidil was also sent to the hospital where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Two suspects were also shot dead in the incident.

South Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Kamarulzaman Mamat said the two policemen on patrol were confronted by five Indonesians armed with knives at Lorong Yusuf Shahbuddin 44D.

He said the drama unfolded when the policemen spotted suspicious characters in the area and decided to conduct checks on them.

“A scuffle ensued and one of the attackers grabbed a pistol belonging to Raja Aizam and tried to shoot Aidil but failed,” he said.

Aidil, who were badly injured in the scuffle, grabbed the pistol from the suspect and shot dead two of them before help arrived, according to initial investigations.

Raja Aizam is survived by a wife and four children. His remains will be buried in his hometown in Kuala Kangsar, Perak later today.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the penal code for murder. Police are hunting for three other men still at large.

Raja Aizam is the second policemen killed in the line of duty so far this year. In the first incident on January 6, a policeman in Pahang was shot dead when he went after two criminals during a crime prevention round.

Corporal Abdul Halim Mohd Ali was with his three colleagues when they stumbled upon two men armed with shotguns in the 4pm incident.

The suspects escaped and Abdul Halim decided to chase after them alone. His body was found with gunshot wounds in the face and chest a few hours later.

The suspects in that case are still at large.

In September last year, a policeman was bludgeoned to death during a vehicle theft operation at a scrap metal factory in Taman Teknologi Cheng, Malacca.

No one has been arrested for his murder. – March 4, 2014.
