Her family hoped, she can be independent after coming back from the center of blind. And she can attend the school on september. Miss. Chatham was the director of the center of the blind, in shelley imagination miss chatham was short and dumpy, and her dowdy clothes made her likes someone’s great aunt. Shelley has a romate her name was angelo sollano, but she wasn’t called by angelo and she wanted to call bette.
Bette and shelley stayed at 205 room. They would be a friend. It’s the first day for shelley to stay here after her family left. Everybody gethered in the dining room to have a dinner, and it’s the first time for her to join dinner with the blind . so was confused what should he do. Miss chatham took the place and started to introduce all of the members, staffs and the teachers. mr. donaldson as the mobility instructor, he will be teaching them cane travel, crossing the sreet, taking buses, finding your way in stores. One by one the other teachers identified themselves. There was mrs.pardo, in charge of home, mr. doyle, from the house repaire shop. There was ms. Mcdouggal, who tought typing, and there was the braille insructor who simply called herself pat. Then it was the trainess’turn. One by one from up and down two long tables, they introduced themselves. Most merely offered their names and hometowns, but a few refered to work they had done before their vision problems set in, or the things they hoped to master there at the center. There was louise a grandmother from flagstaff, Ariszona; there was marco from the zuni reservation; there was Ed,an engineering student who’d lost his sight in the car accident and still wanted to get his degree. By the time sheely counted sixteen people, their names and voices were a meaningless blur.
Sheely felt for the first time in a month that she was no longer all alone. She enjoyed her living and her lesson there till she became independent blind girl, such as walking to the dining room, her room, wearing a clothes and choosing her clothes, reading a braille word, writing, not only that she can find the direction out side, crossing the road, found the drug store. But also got the bus. She had a new friend, his name was kevin. Kevin was her a new friend in the center of the blind, kevin was the one who always visited her and invited her to have climb. Shelley would not climb after she got the blind, she tried to forget all of her habits before but kevin came and made her remember all about climb. Kevin and shelley closed and closed, because the day shelley should come back home fast. Kevin invited shelley to have a chat in the park, but shelley refused kevin’s ride.
Shelley wanted to show that the blind people could come by themselves. Shelley tried hard to find the way to go to park, she wanted to show that the blind could fine the traffic. It was the hottest time of the day, and she seemed to have the whole sidewalk to herself. She began to relax. In spite of the searing sun it was a pleasure to walk along, thinking her own uninterupted thoughts. With a joilt, she relaized that was she had gone out alone. Perhaps her life really could get back to normal after all. Then she scolded herself for letting her thoughts wander. She had been relieved that no one was on the street to stare, but that meant no one was there to point her in the right direction. Suppose she couldn’t find the park! What if kevin waited ffor hours while she wandered aimlessly up and down silent empty street? A wild panic seized her forcing her to a dead stop in the middle of the sidewalk. She turn around, she’d retreat to the center.
Kevin wouldn’t wait too long since he had to be at work. She’d explain to kevin that she just couldn’t make it. After the longest jurney she finally arrived in the park and met kevin. After having a chat with kevin, shelley would be back to her training center. But shelley refused kevin’s ride for the second time, ten minutes later she climbed the three familiar steps and pulled open the heavy front door of the center. She had found her way back with no trouble at all. She wouldn’t be quite so afraid the next time she went out, and the time after that might be even easier. That night when kevin arrived she would tell him about her blissfully unventful walk, and she would thank him for not giving her a ride . they would lough together when she confessed how angry she had been at him for a minute or two then admitted that he had been right all long, she was truly lucky to have found a good, sensible friend like kevin.
Bette suspected that Kevin had special feeling to Shelley, but Shelley was in doubt in that although she felt happy talking to Kevin. If anyone would ever be in her life, he was Tom not Kevin. Kevin knew that yesterday Shelley would came to home, so he invited her to go out. Miss chatham said to them that the door would be locked at ten so they promised to go back before ten. They were in The Taco when Shelley said that she was afraid go back to school because of the changing feeling of her friends, but Kevin tried to comfort her. He invited her to the movie till they forgot to the limit of the time. The door was locked when they came at The Centre of Blind. Finally she used the Bette’s secret door to come in to the centre. Before went, Kevin put the flower on the Shelley’s ear. It made Shelley thought that maybe Bette was right about Kevin’s feeling to Shelley. Shelley walked quitely so that nobody would hear her stepped while thinked that she and Kevin just a friend and not more.
In home, shelley could join together with her father, mother, and her sister Marge. She wanted to do anything by herself but her mother forbade her and she heard from her mother that Mrs Donalson asked Marge to change Shelley as Amanda’s baby sitter after Shelley was blind, those events made Shelley annoyed. Marge invited Sally to the secret place and they did not want their parents knew about that place. So they lay to their parents by said that they would go to Jill’s home. They went to the mountain which had good scenery, and hiked to the place which was found by Marge. Marge said that she eveShelley slipped, and Marge said that she ever fell on there and it could happen to every one. It made Shelley annoyed because as a blind girl, she just fell on there. Shelley thought that Marge was very lucky because she could do anything she wanted but in other hand, Shelley as the true climber before was blind just could read the braille book in the home. Perhaps Marge sensed Shelley’s thought, so she invited Shelley to go home. And they wanted to come there again.
