London- Sekelompok mahasiswa asal India, termasuk seorang yang baru berusia 17 tahun, menciptakan jam tangan Android yang disebut-sebut pertama di dunia. Perangkat bernama Androidly ini mampu berfungsi penuh layaknya smartphone Android.

Androidly dapat melakukan panggilan telepon ataupun SMS karena menampung kartu SIM. Juga ada fitur standar smartphone seperti Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, kamera 2 megapixel serta storage microSD sampai kapasitas 16GB.

Adapun dapur pacu Androidly ditenagai prosesor 416 Mhz dan RAM 256MB. Layarnya yang seluas 2 inch memiliki resolusi 320 x 240 pixel. Sistem operasinya terhitung jadul, masih menggunakan Android Froyo 2.2.

Androidly yang bentuknya cukup keren ini dijual USD 229 atau di kisaran Rp 2 jutaan. Dikutip detikINET dari DailyMail, Selasa (2/7/2013), penciptanya terdiri dari 4 mahasiswa India yang sedang belajar di Inggris.

Salah satunya yang menjabat sebagai Chief Marketing Officer, yakni Siddhant Vats baru berumur 17 tahun. Tiga anggota lainnya berumur 24 tahun.

"Ada produk serupa di pasar, namun mereka kebanyakan hanya melakukan sync dengan smartphone dan bukan berfungsi sebagai ponsel. Kami telah melakukan porting Android dalam board yang kecil dan menciptakan ponsel yang bisa dipakai," kata Apurva Sukant, salah satu pembuatnya.

Jam tangan yang cukup canggih ini sudah bisa dipesan di situs Androidly. Dengan demikian, para mahasiswa ini mengalahkan para raksasa teknologi seperti Apple atau Google yang baru berencana memproduksi jam tangan pintar.
