This ia a photo of the Apollo 2 crew (yes, the Apollo 2 crew), taken shortly before their flight was cancelled. On November 15, 1966, Wally Schirra (out of frame), Donn Eisele (left) and Walt Cunningham were reassigned as the backup crew for Apollo 1 because Apollo 2 was seen as an unnecessary repeat of the first Apollo mission.

Because of the Apollo 1 fire in January 1967, Schirra, Eisele and Cunningham eventually made the first manned Apollo flight in October 1968.
