Nicolas Cage did not die in a snowboarding accident
What do Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Nicolas Cage have in common? Yes they may have all featured in seminal films - some in more than others - but they have also all been the victim of an internet death hoax, and more specifically, they have all allegedly died in a snowboarding accident.
A few weeks ago we reported on the Adam Sandler death hoax, and now it seems that Nicolas Cage has been targeted. The ‘reports’ are claiming that Nicolas Cage died in a snowboarding accident in... Guess where... Why in Zermatt of course!
Cage is not dead, he is alive.
The site said the following: Actor Nicholas Cage is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today - January 17, 2013.
"Witnesses indicate that Nicholas Cage lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Nicholas Cage was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash.
“The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death."
How bizarre!
And, to make things worse, the rumour managed to pick up some speed after some other news sources picked up on the initial hoax. After seeing a lot of these hoaxes recently we are more than bemused as to why people decide to fabricate these events. And we are also interested in why they are always based on a snowboard accident in Zermatt. And I am also quite interested in how they choose their ‘victim’. Perhaps Louis Theroux could make a documentary about it.
People are mourning the ‘death’ on Facebook and Twitter. But we thought we would let you know, that Nicolas Cage is alive and well. So there is still hope for a sequel to Gone in 60 Seconds.
