2010
RB6 widely acknowledged as the fastest car on the grid, at least in the dry, but reliability niggles and unfavourable weather mean the team win just one of the season's opening four flyaway races.

Sejarah
Musim debut

Backgrounds
Scuderia Toro Rosso (Italian for Team Red Bull) is one of two Formula One teams owned by Austrian beverage company Red Bull (the other is Red Bull Racing). It made its racing debut in the 2006 Formula One season, after Paul Stoddart sold his remaining interest in the Minardi team at the end of 2005 to Red Bull's owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, who subsequently struck a 50/50 joint-ownership deal with former F1 driver, Gerhard Berger, before the start of the season. In late November 2008, Red Bull regained total ownership of Toro Rosso after buying back Berger's share of the team.[1]

Scuderia Toro Rosso is the sister team of Red Bull Racing, with the aim of developing the skills of promising drivers for the senior team.

Development
2006 season
Vitantonio Liuzzi at the 2006 Canadian Grand Prix

Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed were the 2006 race drivers, with Neel Jani filling the test/third driver role. Liuzzi had raced part time for Red Bull Racing in 2005, while Speed entered F1 following the Red Bull Driver Search in the United States. Jani was the test driver for Sauber Petronas in 2004.

The 2006 chassis was a modified version of the 2005 Red Bull Racing RB1. Some teams felt that this infringed the Concorde Agreement as each team is expected to design their own car. Toro Rosso claim that this design was originally produced during 2004 by Jaguar Racing, Red Bull's predecessor, and that the intellectual rights had belonged to the Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Racing's parent company before passing to Toro Rosso.

The team used Minardi's contracted supply of rev limited and air restricted Cosworth 3.0l V10 engines. This concession had been granted to assist less well funded teams by avoiding the cost of sourcing a new supply of V8 engines as required by the 2006 regulations.[3] The continuation of this arrangement after the Red Bull takeover caused friction with other teams, in particular Super Aguri and Midland who felt that the engine conferred too much of an advantage. They contended that the concession to allow the team use a V10 engine was based on Minardi's poor financial situation, and should not have continued to apply after the team achieved a completely different financial footing.

2009 season

With Vettel moving to Red Bull Racing [9] Sébastien Buemi and Sébastien Bourdais led the team's assault in the 2009 World Championship. The team unveiled their new car last of all the teams taking part in the 2009 season, on 9 March 2009.[10] Before the season started, the team's boss Franz Tost said that it would be "difficult" to do as well as they did in the 2008 season.[10] On the 16 July 2009, the team announced that Sébastien Bourdais' contract was to be terminated with immediate effect. On 20 July 2009, the team announced that Jaime Alguersuari will replace him as official driver from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards. Multiple WRC Champion Sébastien Loeb had been quoted in the French sports-paper L'Equipe as being interested in replacing Bourdais.[11] It had been stated that Loeb would not be available to race in F1 until after the end of the WRC season.[12] He would've been available to make his F1 debut at the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November.[13] However, this was not to be as the FIA denied him a super licence which is required to drive in Formula One.[14] The season ended with Scuderia Toro Rosso finishing last place in the championship after being over taken by Force India after their podium finish in the Belgium GP. However Toro Rosso's form picked up towards the end of the season with Sebastien Buemi going on to score points in the final two races. Jaime Alguersuari failed to score any points in the season.

2010

Scuderia Toro Rosso confirmed that they would keep Sébastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari, in the hope of getting better results. On 22 January 2010, the team confirmed the signing of Alguersuari. Alguersuari scored the first points of his career finishing ninth under the new points system at the Malaysian Grand Prix. He finished tenth in Spain scoring a point thanks to Lewis Hamilton's penultimate lap crash. He also received a drive-through penalty in that race. At the next race in Monaco Buemi finished 11th and Alguersuari 12th, the last two runners at the end of the race. However, when Michael Schumacher received a 20-second penalty for a last turn overtake against Fernando Alonso, Buemi was moved up to tenth, scoring a point.

Long-term future

With the 2008 Concorde Agreement outlawing customer cars from 2010 onwards, Dietrich Mateschitz put the Toro Rosso team up for sale in March 2008. He aimed to secure a buyer by the end of 2009, while the team continued in its present guise until then[15]. On 10 November 2009, Toro Rosso announced that Sebastien Buemi would continue to race for them in 2010. No official announcement of the second driver had been made up to then, however Jaime Alguersuari was reported to take the second race seat, as published on 26 November 2009[16]. On 22 January 2010, Toro Rosso officially confirmed that Alguersuari would stay on for the 2010 season.

Vettel’s home run in Heppenheim
≤-≈ Red Bull Fans Thread [RBR™ and Torro Rosso™]≈-≥

Sebastian Vettel brought a taste of Formula One to his fans yesterday as the Red Bull Racing pilot took the team’s show car for a run around his home town of Heppenheim, Germany.

Ahead of the German Grand Prix next weekend, the tranquil medieval area of Bergstrasse in Heppenheim reverberated to the sounds of F1 as Sebastian Vettel took to the streets of his home town in the Red Bull Racing show car, bringing a taste of modern F1 to more than 120,000 fans.

"It was just awesome," said Sebastian. "I want to thank all the fans for this truly unique and amazing day. I always dreamed about a day like this and they were the ones who made this dream come true."

≤-≈ Red Bull Fans Thread [RBR™ and Torro Rosso™]≈-≥

Countless Vettel banners lined the specially-built one kilometre track as Seb first took to the streets in a KTM quad bike, stopping to sign autographs along the way. Then he took to an F1 car and unleashed 750hp on his fans.

Quote:

"We are really proud of Sebastian. He is the most famous son of our town and has always stayed loyal to his fans. We really want to celebrate this day," said a local restaurateur.

Joining Sebastian for the afternoon was two-times DTM champion Mattias Ekström in his Audi A4, DTM, four-times winner of the Red Bull Hare Scramble Chris Pfeiffer performing his spectacular street bike stunt show and Smudo, of German hip-hop band Die Fantastischen Vier (Fantastic Four) showing off his Bio Concept Car.

"We wanted to perform an amazing show that the fans will remember for a very long time," said Ekström. "And I think we made a good job."

Keep up with Sebastian at the German Grand Prix this weekend.

Respect runs deep at Red Bull Racing

≤-≈ Red Bull Fans Thread [RBR™ and Torro Rosso™]≈-≥

Writing on his personal site, Mark Webber reflects on his victory at the British Grand Prix and the controversy that hit Red Bull Racing at Silverstone.

'Winning the British Grand Prix was a great thrill for all of us at Red Bull Racing.

My disappointment on Saturday after qualifying spilled over into Sunday but it was simply due to the fact that I, along with every other driver on the grid, wanted the best possible chance of success.

Sebastian received the newer front wing for reasons which were not clearly explained to me until Saturday late afternoon. Obviously I can see why a team may at certain points have to favour a driver with more points in the championship, if there are only enough resources to fully support one of us.

We’ve already debriefed the race weekend at the factory and have cleared the air. It’s now understood that, should we face this unlikely dilemma again, preference will go to the championship points leader.

Of course things get said in the heat of the moment which, with hindsight goggles on, probably shouldn’t have been said. Formula One is a highly charged and fiercely competitive arena where emotions and adrenalin do run high from time to time like in many sports and my comment on the radio after the race was an example of Australian sarcasm – either at its best or worst depending on how you choose to take it.

Quote:

But rest assured, under the helmet I was massively rapped about winning one of the most prestigious events on the F1 calendar and Red Bull Racing’s local race. It’s a home race of sorts for me; I only live 40 minutes down the road and the UK and Buckinghamshire in particular has been home to me for the past 15 years so Silverstone and the British GP are both very special to me
Christian Horner and I have known each other for many years; we’re friends and have a strong mutual respect which continues and extends to other activities, such as our GP3 team and interest in finding and nurturing young racing talent.

The team has produced an awesome car and has come a long way in a short space of time. There are more than 500 people at the Red Bull Racing factory at Milton Keynes and I know that each and every one of them share the highs and lows that Sebastian and I experience during the season. The support we both enjoy is phenomenal and on Sunday evening many of them joined us at Christian’s annual post-race party and celebrated our win in style.

The respect within the team extends to the drivers. I know I have a very good driver as a team-mate and I wouldn’t want it any other way. We share information freely in team meetings and contribute to the development and improvement of our cars. Seb and I are not enemies, we’re just two drivers that are pushing hard and want to do the best for ourselves and the team, it’s as simple as that.

The British Grand Prix was a wonderful result for myself and the team; however time moves fast and looking in the mirror for too long doesn’t prepare us for Germany. We’ve moved on.'

THE COULTHARD COMMENTARY
≤-≈ Red Bull Fans Thread [RBR™ and Torro Rosso™]≈-≥

The British Grand Prix ended in victory for Mark Webber, but from the outside it looks like the relationship is becoming strained with the team management. Mark's former Red Bull Racing team-mate and BBC F1 pundit David Coulthard gives us his view of events in Silverstone...

There are two ways of running a race team. You can either go the Ferrari-Schumacher route, with one driver openly backed over the other. Or you can go for an equal partnership.

≤-≈ Red Bull Fans Thread [RBR™ and Torro Rosso™]≈-≥
The first is the most effective way of winning a championship but morally dubious. The second is the fairer system but is incredibly volatile and difficult to put into practice. My preference is for the second system. I once turned down the chance of a move to Ferrari as I would not accept being a signed-up number two to Michael. Red Bull are clearly a team trying to do it the fair way, whatever Mark Webber may have said at Silverstone.

I have a huge amount of respect for Mark, and he had his own reasons for saying what he did. He clearly felt aggrieved that the team gave Sebastian Vettel his wing prior to qualifying, and he saw an opportunity to turn the situation in his favour by making his feelings plain to the media. That is his prerogative.

In many respects, that bloody-minded attitude is what I wish I had shown on the two occasions during my career, at Jerez in 1997 and Melbourne a year later, when I was asked to make way for my McLaren team-mate, Mika Hakkinen.

Quote:

I will never know whether my compliance cost me the chance of a championship. Arguably Mika was the more complete driver anyway, but perhaps those incidents gave him additional confidence or subconsciously dented mine, as well as my self-esteem.

That is not to say, though, that I agree with Mark. As Christian Horner explained, his team were in an invidious position. With just one new front wing and two hungry drivers, he applied a logic he felt would give Red Bull the best chance of winning the championship. That is his prerogative.

OK, so the logic helped Sebastian as the leading driver, but to be fair to the team, with the standings now reversed, they have already said they will apply the same logic next time, which would help Mark.

The mistake Red Bull made, and which Christian has admitted, was that they did not go into the weekend with that system already in place and publicly known; that way they would not have left themselves open to accusations of partisanship.

This is not sitting on the fence. This is the paradox of Formula One. The driver-team relationship is one of the most complex in sport; a multi-million pound marriage with the divorce papers signed on the same day as the wedding. The relationship will end; that much is certain. It is just a question of time. During that time, both sides will try to extract the most they can from the partnership.

Red Bull would doubtless prefer it if Mark aired his grievances in private. Mark, who suspects Red Bull’s Austrian owners would prefer Vettel to win the championship, clearly feels he can gain more leverage by going public and trying to shame the team whenever he feels hard done by.

It is a risky strategy. If it goes wrong, the relationship with the team could sour irreparably. If it comes off, he could consolidate his position, attract public sympathy and be remembered as a steely champion who battled against the odds to win his title.

There were reports on Sunday night that Mark’s side of the garage taunted Seb’s. I have no idea if that is true – I have to say I sincerely doubt it – but race teams are tight-knit communities so this is undoubtedly a very big test for Christian. I think he is up to it.

He started the healing process with some appalling karaoke at the post-race party on Sunday night. It is easy to forget that Red Bull won the race on Sunday with a car that was out of this world; Adrian Newey has now designed 11 British Grand Prix-winning cars and the team are in great shape.

Red Bull learnt from Istanbul and they will learn from this. When the dust settles, I think they will take more positives than negatives.
