Literary Appreciation of Song of "Fix You" by Cold Play
I enjoyed the song, Fix Youby Cold Play. The lyrics have six stanza and in this song the refrain repeated twice. Futhermore, in the second refrain the tone more lower than the first one. It showed that it existed softly meanings. Meanwhile the genre of this song is alternative rock. Suitable with my favorite song which is the rock genre. Eventhough the lyrics is full of sadness, surrender and sorrow its not representing the fractious.
This song begins that the song writers have written; “When you try your best but you don’t succeed. What you get what you want but not what you need. When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep. Stuck in reverse”.This stanza has implied meaning of sarcastic. As Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Sacrastic is the final escape from the unpretentious and pure souls when the personal sense of their souls is roughly and forcefully entered.
For the second stanza, “When the tears come streaming down your face. When you lose something you can’t replace. When you love someone but it goes to waste. Could it be worse?” It’s implied meaning of diction. For example “Tears come streaming down your face”and “Could it be worse?”. As Widyamartaya said diction or choice of words is the ability of a person to distinguish precisely the nuances of meaning according to the idea to convey and that ability should adjusted to the situation and value of the flavors owned by a group of people and listeners of readers.
After two stanza, the refrain appearances a lot of figure of speech “Lights will guide you home. And ignite your bones. And I will try to fix you”, all this part stanza have implied meaning that there is someone who will give a motivation and also a concerness.
“ High up above or down below. When you’re too in love to let it go. But if you never try you’ll never know. Just what you’re worth.”This part of stanza implied of contradiction. Two of first line and two of end line each other are contradictive. In KBBI, Contradictive is the contention between two very contradictory or conflicting things.
There is interesting thing of two last stanza which are close to same lyrics but in the second of last stanza existed differences. “Tears stream down your face. When you lose something you cannot replace. Tears stream down your face. And I.” “Tears stream down your face. I promise you I will learn from my mistake.Tears stream down your face. And I”. It’s implied meaning that the song writers have ever been in the same situation. Does, they can be give motivation. That’s why its back to refrain again.
In conclusion, this song is very recommended to build up the spirit for ourself. It will give you a motivation when you’re in unstable. The words will make you believe that the future will be waiting you. And I think this song properly for 20-50 years old.
