Report: Saudi Prince Killed In Helicopter Crash

A Saudi prince was killed when the helicopter he was riding in crashed in southern Saudi Arabia near the Yemen border on Sunday.

Prince Mansour bin Muqrin, the deputy governor of the kingdom’s Asir Province, died in the accident, reports Agence France-Presse, citing Saudi state media.

As many as eight other officials were traveling with Prince Mansour, but it was not immediately clear if they all were killed, as well.

The crash caps a tumultuous weekend for the Saudi royal family. On Saturday, 11 royals, including billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, were arrested on corruption charges in what was widely seen as a move by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to concentrate power in the hands of his son and designated successor, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Prince Mansour is a son of former head of Saudi intelligence Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who was briefly crown prince from January to April of 2015.

A video of Saudi Prince Mansour bin Muqrin, deputy governor of Asir, was released showing him and other officials boarding the helicopter before the crash that killed everyone on board.

The Undersecretary of the Asir Sulayman al-Juraish and the Secretary of Asir region accompanied Prince Mansour bin Muqrin.

On Sunday morning, Prince Mansour inspected projects in al-Saida al-Sawalha Center, which is implemented by the municipality of Mohail Asir, and listened to a detailed explanation from the Mayor of Mahil Asir Said Ali Jaber.

Sources said that the helicopter was carrying eight people, all of them died in the crash.
