It’s been a long time coming, but finally, the sequel to 2010’s sci-fi flick Skyline is nearly with us. Going by the name of Beyond Skyline, the new film was actually shot some two to three years ago, and it takes place at the same time as the original. Its events will just be happening parallel to those of the first movie.

We have a trailer for Beyond Skyline now, which seems like a spin-off sequel, and the trailer is ... awesome.

Directed by Liam O’Donnell, who co-wrote the original film, Beyond Skyline stars Frank Grillo, who tends to be amazing in everything, from The Purge films to the Captain America films. It also stars Iko Uwais, who gained fame in The Raid series (as well as for being a member of Kanjiklub in The Force Awakens). That cast, already, is a big step up from the first film. Plus, the sequel really seems to blow out the effects and action, in contrast to the original, which was much more isolated.





Will Beyond Skyline be good? Who knows, but its trailer is certainly way more jaw-dropping than it has any right to be. It’s scheduled to open November this year, but we’re not sure where.

Beyond Skyline actually takes place concurrently with the events of the first film and features another perspective on the invasion, namely that of Mark (played by Frank Grillo), a detective whose child is one of many people snatched up by the aliens at the beginning of the invasion.

It’s not entirely clear from the above trailer but it appears Mark somehow ends up in Indonesia, where he meets up with Iko Uwais’ character, Sua, and his band of warriors, who recruit Grillo’s grizzled detective into joining their fight to defend Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta (not sure if it’s that exactly in the film, but they definitely filmed some of it on location there) from the alien forces.

One of Sua’s warriors is his co-star and fellow silat stunt master from The Raid films, Yayan Ruhian, who plays a character who is simply called “The Chief”.

Seriously, I am looking forward to seeing Iko and Yayan beating the shit out of some aliens.
