FIFA telah mengumumkan lima kandidat sah untuk mengikuti pemilihan presiden baru federasi menggantikan Sepp Blatter pada 26 Februari tahun depan.
Sebagaimana dilansir laman resmi lembaga, kelima calon yang telah memenuhi kualifikasi menyusul serangkaian tes integritas adalah Pangeran Ali Al Hussein, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Jerome Champagne, Gianni Infantino, dan Tokyo Sexwale.
Ini berarti dari ada dua nama tersisih dari total tujuh kandidat potensial yang mengemuka bulan lalu, yakni Michel Platini serta Musa Hassan Bility.
Hanya, berbeda dari Bility yang dinyatakan gugur lantaran gagal lolos uji integritas, pencalonan Platini sifatnya masih tertunda, untuk diperiksa nanti setelah suspensi 90 hari yang diterima presiden UEFA itu dari Komite Etik FIFA tuntas.
Adapun Bility dapat melayangkan upaya banding terhadap keputusan ini kepada Pengadilan Arbitrase Olahraga.

* Pangeran Ali juga dikenal dengan suksesnya menghapus larangan pemain wanita memakai jilbab saat terjun di kompetisi internasional.
* Pada tahun 2011 Pangeran Ali terpilih sebagai wakil presiden AFC untuk mewakili Asia, dan menjadi wakil presiden FIFA termuda sepanjang sejarah (35 tahun). Dia kemudian juga terpilih sebagai wakil presiden AFC.
* Saudara perempuan Pangeran Ali, Putri Haya, pernah dua kali menjadi Presiden Asosiasi Equestrian Internasional. Sementara saudara tirinya adalah anggota Komite Olimpiade Internasional.
* Salah satu kampanye Pangeran Ali dalam pencalonan presiden FIFA adalah: membalik piramida (kekuasaan) FIFA saat ini dengan memberi lebih banyak 'power' pada asosiasi sepakbola, pemain, pelatih, ofisial, fans, serta para sponsor. Background
Shaikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa is a member of the Bahrain Royal Family. He graduated from University of Bahrain in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and History. Shaikh Salman has been involved in football for many years dating back to the 1980s when he played in the youth team of Bahrain Division I team, Riffa Club. [citation needed ]
Since leaving Riffa Club to focus on his academic studies, Shaikh Salman has held executive positions at the BFA. In 1996 he was appointed Chairman of the National Team, elected Vice President two years later and eventually became the Football Association’s president in 2002. He has also served as the Co-Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee at several FIFA Tournaments such as, the FIFA World Cups, FIFA Beach Tournaments, FIFA Club Championships, etc. He was also Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee at Beijing in 2008. On 15 October 2015 Sheikh Salman announced his candidature to become the next president of FIFA after the election of February 2016. His likely candidature aroused criticism from human rights organizations, notably Human Rights Watch , Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain and the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy. He was accused of “complicity in crimes against humanity” for allegedly heading a committee that identified 150 athletes, including international footballers, involved in pro-democracy demonstrations in 2011, many of whom were later imprisoned and tortured. He denied the allegations.[3]

The Guardian has suggested him as a potential replacement for Blatter, [18] and in September 2014 he declared he would run for the FIFA presidency at its 2015 election. [1] In January 2015, he declared he would run a clean campaign and would consider taking the 2022 World Cup away from Qatar if he won the election. [19] However, he failed to obtain enough support, and withdrew his candidacy in February 2015.
