At least one powerful bomb hit near the main train station in the Turkish capital Saturday morning, killing 30 people, authorities said.
The blast in Ankara was so powerful that it shook city highrise buildings and offices. The death toll is expected to climb. The Interior Ministry said 86 people were killed and 186 others injured.
A newly aggressive stance toward ISIS
Turkey avoided, for quite some time, any conflict with the terrorist group ISIS -- perhaps in exchange for the release earlier this year of Turkish hostages seized in the Iraqi city of Mosul.
But Turkey recently changed its stance and allowed the U.S. to launch anti-ISIS strikes from the Incirlik Air Base.
Some observers predicted Turkey would be subject to terrorist attacks because of its newly aggressive stance toward ISIS. However, there was no indication yet on who was responsible for Saturday's bombing.
New reports have said that many Turks have joined ISIS' ranks and that Turks, many of whom have been recruiting in Ankara, may make up a third of ISIS' ranks.
