Seperti dikutip dari TIME, Kamis (16/10/2014), Jokowi disebutkan sebagai presiden yang menjadi harapan baru bagi Indonesia. Kepada wartawan TIME Hannah Beech yang mewawancarainya, Widodo begitu TIME menulisnya, Jokowi menyebut kalau orang-orang khawatir dengan dia karena selalu blusukan.
"Saya selalu mengecek. Saya ingin orang takut karena ada sidak, dan kemudian mereka akan mendengar instruksi," jelas Jokowi.
"Ekspestasi orang-orang sangat tinggi. Itu berbahaya buat saya, jika saya tidak bisa mewujudkan apa yang mereka inginkan, apa yang saya janjikan," tutur Jokowi kepada wartawan TIME.
Di tulisan itu, TIME menulis kalau Jokowi akan memimpin Indonesia, negara nomor empat dengan jumlah penduduk terbanyak. Sebuah negara demokrasi yang memiliki kekayaan alam melimpah dan negara dengan populasi muslim terbanyak di planet bumi. Jokowi menang dalam pemilihan presiden Juli lalu, mengalahkan Prabowo Subianto.
