2nd Mig-27 crash this year. I've got this listed as crash no 41 in total(includes 1 shot down by PAF during Kargil).

Attrition losses close but not as bad as Mig-21 in % terms. Worst year was in 1998 when the IAF lost 5 including 3 from 1 accident alone when a Mig-27 plowed into another 2 parked Mig-27s. 2010 was quite bad with 4 accidents as well which occured after the upgrade was completed. Flightglobal's world air force 2015 lists 87 active Mig-27s before this accident. HAL built most of the Mig-27ML in IAF service.
The Mig-27 has already been retired in Russia/Ukraine and in India has commenced phasing out from 2014. The aircraft was the subject of a CAG report last year criticising the installation of the Takshak EW system, a project that was initiated knowing that the completion would only occur after phasing out and the project was terminated after some expenditure was incurred. The final departure date has fluctuated from 2016 to 2020 which likely means more attrition losses until then. I have 3 active IAF Mig-27 sqns listed (10 - UPG from Dec 1993, 22, 29 - UPG, TACDE). 3 previous Mig-27 has converted to Su-30MKI (2nd - 15 Jun 2009, 18th - June 2013, 222nd - June 2013).l
