White powder found at Indonesian embassy taken to hospital for testing


A suspicious package containing white powder which prompted a shutdown of the Indonesian embassy in Canberra will be taken to a nearby hospital for testing.

The Australian Federal Police confirmed they had been called to the embassy in Yarralumla about 10.45am after a "suspicious package" was found.

A spokesman said a ACT Fire and Rescue HAZMAT team had also been deployed and the area had been cordoned off.


Police and a HAZMAT vehicles are stationed outside the Indonesian embassy in Canberra.



A suspicious package was found within the embassy.

It has now been taken to ACT Pathology at Canberra Hospital for analysis, police said.

Darwin Avenue has now reopened to traffic.



It is understood the embassy lost power at the time of the operation, but it is believed to be related to a short circuit, 2GB reported.
