IAF MiG-27 crashes in Rajasthan, Pilot ejects safely

A MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Rajasthan while landing at Uttarlai station today. The pilot of the fighter plane ejected safely.
The plane was on a routine sortie and the incident occurred at around 03.30 pm when the pilot was preparing for landing, he said.

In view of the increasing number of accidents involving the MiG-27 aircraft type, the IAF has decided to phase them out by 2017. The force is also planning to allow only experienced fighter pilots to fly the plane from next year.

NEW DELHI: A MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Barmer district on Tuesday, but the pilot managed to eject safely.

The Indian Air Force confirmed that the pilot ejected safely before the crash at a village 4km from Barmer in Rajasthan.

The Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.
