President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo visited the cross-border Entikong to observe the border that divides Indonesia and Malaysia in West Kalimantan. Jokowi said, his visit is the first step to mark the following large- scale developments in the area.

"Why are we coming to this place, to Entikong? Because we want create such drastic changes around this area. It will start in Entikong. This year, all roads will be physically improved. The development will have to be a total one. We have to be a lot better than neighbouring country," Jokowi said, Pontianak, Wednesday (21/01/2015).

"All will be reconstructed, we will create 4 lines. The gate will have to change, the service, immigration centre, customs and many more. We have to make Indonesia one to look up to, thus the development of better improved borderline next to Malaysia," Jokowi added.

To start the reorganization around the Entikong area, the government will need around Rp 1 trillion. The fund needed is not only for the improvement of infrastructure but also to strengthen the Indonesian border as well as to build facilities such as health centre and education centre to accommodate people’s lives.

"There will be a port, the roads will be expanded. We will also build facilities for education and health care," Jokowi continued.

Jokowi says he will give up until the end of 2015 for the construction to finish.

"The most important thing is to have all islands connected to each other, logistic distribution as well. That is why I will come back in December to check the place again," Jokowi explained.

Prior to his visit to Entikong, Jokowi also went to officially announce Masjid Raya Mujahiddin in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
