Tak terhitung bocoran-bocoran yang muncul mengenai smartphone terbaru Apple, iPhone 6. Perangkat yang lama ditunggu itu akhirnya resmi diperkenalkan Apple dalam acara peluncuran di Cupertino, AS, Selasa (9/9/2014) waktu setempat. 

Perkenalan iPhone 6 hanya menyisakan sedikit kejutan karena rupa ponsel pintar tersebut ternyata sangat mirip dengan gambaran yang didapat dari aneka bocoran tentangnya selama ini.

Sesuai prediksi, iPhone generasi ke-6 mengusung ukuran layar yang lebih lebar dari sebelumnya, yakni 4,7 inci. 

Desain iPhone 6 pun cukup banyak berubah dibandingkan para pendahulunya. Smartphone tersebut kini berbentuk lebih “membulat” dengan pinggiran-pinggiran melengkung yang lebih sesuai dengan kontur tangan manusia.

Demikian pula dengan bagian lensa kamera yang sedikit menonjol di bagian belakang, sama dengan yang digambarkan oleh bocoran. Selain versi 4,7 inci, ada pula iPhone 6 dengan layar yang lebih lebar (5,5 inci) bernama iPhone 6 Plus. 

“Saya harap Anda setuju, mereka adalah ponsel terbaik yang pernah Anda lihat,” kata CEO Apple Tim Cook ketika memperkenalkan kedua produk di panggung, sebagaimana dikutip oleh The Verge.

Sedari awal, Apple memang berencana membuat iPhone 6 dalam dua versi ukuran layar. Resolusi display keduanya lebih tinggi dibandingkan iPhone terdahulu, yakni 1334x750 untuk iPhone 6 dan 1920x1080 (full-HD) untuk iPhone 6 Plus. 

Karena ukuran layarnya yang lebih lebar itu, Apple menyebutkan bahwa iPhone 6 Plus memiliki jumlah pixel 185 persen lebih besar dibandingkan andalan Apple sebelumnya, iPhone 5S.

iPhone 6 announced: 4.7-inch display, A8 processor, 8-megapixel camera, available September 19th for $199

The smaller of the two new iPhone 6 models has a 4.7-inch display, which is still notably bigger than 4-inch screen on the iPhone 5 and 5S that preceded it.

The glass front curves around the sides of the phone and Apple says the new screen has Retina HD resolution, with 1334 x 750 pixels providing 326 pixels per inch and a wider angle of view. The glass on the new display is "ion strengthened," which doesn't sound like it is sapphire, as rumored. The iPhone 6 measures 6.9mm thick, making it the thinnest device Apple has ever made. 

Inside, the iPhone 6 has a new A8 processor, which is 25 percent faster than the A7 that preceded it. It also has a 50 percent faster graphics chip. Apple says it is 13 percent smaller than the A7, and uses a 20nm manufacturing process. Like the A7, the A8 is also a 64-bit processor. 

The iPhone 6 supports LTE advanced, with speeds up to 150Mbps. It covers more than 20 LTE bands, which Apple claims is more than any other smartphone. It also supports next-generation network technologies such as VoLTE and carrier aggregation. 

The camera in the iPhone 6 maintains the 8 megapixel resolution of the 5S (and the 4S and 5 if you're keeping score), but Apple says it uses an all-new sensor with even larger pixels than before.

iPhone 6 Plus with 5.5-inch display announced starting at $299
Aside from the larger LCD display, the front of the iPhone 6 Plus also is made with "ion-strengthened glass." The back of the phone is made of anodized aluminum with a stainless steel Apple logo. 

The screen resolution for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus has been increased to 1920 x 1080 pixels, 185 percent more pixels compared to the 1136 x 640 resolution found on last year's iPhone 5S.

Apple further unveiled a new 64-bit processor for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the A8, which is 13 percent smaller than the A7 from last year. Apple's Phil Schiller says it offers 25 percent faster CPU performance and 50 percent faster graphics. The A8 is also designed to make the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus able to run at full power with less heat.
