"The Raid 2" banned in M'sia

Indonesian action film, "The Raid 2: Berandal" was supposed to be released for Malaysian screens today, however moviegoers who intended to purchase movie tickets have found its absence from cinemas puzzling.

The sequel to the 2011 film by Welsh director Gareth Evans, was confirmed by its local distributor Nusantra Edaran Filem that it has been banned in Malaysia.

The reason for the ban stills remains unclear, however disappointed moviegoers who had been calling Malaysian movie entertainment site, Cinema Online regarding the status of the movie, have expressed curiosity as to why the movie is not showing.

"After watching the first movie, I was excited to hear the sequel was being made. Now that I've waited so long, I don't understand why it is not showing in cinemas." said moviegoer Nicholas Lim.

Said Mohd Reza, "Maybe there is a lot of violence and gory action scenes in the movie, so it didn't get to make it here. But it had very good reception overseas so it's frustrating. Looks like I have to wait for the DVD now, or head to Singapore or Indonesia to watch it!"

"The Raid 2: Berandal" continues where the first film ends. Rama (Iko Uwais) continues going undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and to uncover the corruption in his own police force.

Released in 2011, the first movie "The Raid: Redemption" screened in Malaysia only on September 2012. Due to the global success of the movie, an American remake is currently in the works.
