RMOL.

February “14 ”, 2014
I was gravely bewildered and outraged when I was advised that the news portal “The Global Review” had published the information that the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Mr. Mikhail Galuzin allegedly met with the journalists from TVRI in his residence on February 12, 2014 and, supposedly, told them that Russia would support Indonesia in its possible war with Singapore.
This publication has nothing to do with reality, in other words it is barely a nonsense, especially given the fact that, as we know, TVRI has not ever published such material.
Firstly, Ambassador did not have meetings with any journalists on the said date. Secondly, even in case such meeting had taken place, Ambassador would have never, under any circumstances, permit himself any statements that might implicate a possible armed conflict between these two ASEAN Member States, the ones which Russia maintains friendly relations and develops mutually beneficial cooperation with. I am confident that further strengthening the partnership ties between Indonesia and Singapore contributes to peace and security in Asia.
I would like to note that on February 10, 2014 I held a press conference on the occasion of the Russian Diplomats’ Day. I suspect that the authors of the provocative article could attend this event. However, during the press conference I didn’t even touched upon the issue of a possible military action between Indonesia and any other country. On the contrary, I gave a detailed account of the main directions of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation which is based on a solely peaceful approach. Even when I was answering a question related to military and technical cooperation between Russia and Indonesia, it was specifically underscored that such kind of bilateral ties are aimed at strengthening the regional peace and security. Again I repeat, I didn’t ever mention in any context a possible warfare between any countries, nor did I make any statements with regard to Russia’s support towards any combatant party.
I believe that you will have a conscience to place this disclaimer on your website. I also expect that you will explain to me the reasons why such publication appeared. And I strongly call on you to not publish in the future such false, outrageous and provocative materials.
Mikhail Y.GALUZIN
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia
