[Finally] Sekjen PDIP Akhirnya Blak-Blak an Tentang Pencapresan Jokowi

The third largest political party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has finally broke its long silence by mentioning the names of Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri as two strong potential presidential candidates.

“The ultimate test will be the legislative election, which will be held on April 9. The PDI-P will be able to propose Jokowi and Megawati as presidential candidates if it can secure at least 20 percent of the vote,” secretary-general Tjahjo Kumolo said as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.

He acknowledged that presently, those two names were the ones that were mostly voiced by the party members and sympathizers.

However, he went on, if the party missed the 20 percent requirement, as required by the General Elections Law, then the PDI-P would likely propose only Jokowi’s name and seek a vice presidential candidate from a coalition with political parties that shared the same vision.

He said to date, chairwoman Megawati had been involved in serious talks with several party chairmen like Crescent Star Party (PBB) patron Yusril Ihza Mahendra, National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Hatta Rajasa and United Development Party (PPP) chairman Suryadharma Ali. (dic)
