Buckle Up! Here Comes The Flying Car
Zoom Out Zoom In Normal
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Terrafugia, a car manufacturer originated from Massachusetts, United States, is now producing flying cars called Transition, which is said to be released in 2015. The car has a shape of an airplane half-combined with a sedan, and it’s four wheels are rather small compared to those of regular cars. It also has a retractable wings on both sides.
At its last year trial, the car could soar in the sky for about eight minutes with an altitude of 1,400 feet. However, for issuing into commercial products, the car was said to be able to take on 35,000 feet altitude and 500 kilometers in distance. But it will take at least a 100 meters of runway before it can finally take off into the air.
Transition has a four passengers capacity, costing around US$300,000 or nearly Rp 3 billion. Far from public consumption, Transition driver must have at least 20 hours of flying experiences.
The manufacturer, Terrafugia, was also said to provide another variant named TF-X, a car that could take off vertically just like a helicopter. This version, however, is yet to be launched in public, since it requires 8 to 12 years of development.
