China’s Mystic Anti-ship Missile Able to Kill an Aegis Destroyer



According to qianzhan.com, China’s newly developed YJ-18 land-based anti-ship missile is so powerful that one such missile can destroy an Aegis destroyer.

YJ-18 can not only be launched vertically from a warship, but also from an aircraft such as Su-30MKK, J-11B, J-15, J-16, FBC-1A or H-6G/K.

Huanqiu.com says according to British Jane’s Defense Weekly, YJ-18 missile is first propelled by a boosting stage which is discarded when the boosting is over. Then a turbofan engine in its tail immediately starts to enable the missile to cruise at Mach 0.8. When the engine has used up all its fuel, it is discarded again. The independent major part of the missile is then propelled by a solid rocket to accelerate to Mach 2.5 to 3.0. at super low altitude for a distance a range of 40 km. It is therefore very difficult to intercept the missile.

The inertia at such high speed make the missile even more powerful.
